Quark 6.5 to Acrobat 9 problems with eps and tiff files

I am very used to making high res PDFs ready for print from Quark using Acrobat. However I have just had a new problem. Last time I printed a job from Quark 6.5 to (Acrobat Pro 9) Distiller as a .ps file then converted the Postscript file using the Press Ready settings in Distiller to make the high res PDF, most of the eps and tiff logos in the PDF (which were very sharp in the Quark file) were bitmapped and not suitable for print. What has happened? As say, I've never had this problem before. Client not happy. By the way, I'm about to upgrade to Quark 8, so I hope I don't get similar problems. Can anybody help PLEASE?! Thanks for your help.

Turn off the OPI Xtension in quark. Create a new Settings file in Distiller, start with the Press settings and uncheck 2 boxes under the Advanced tab, the Allow postscript file to overwrite Distiller settings and Preserve OPI comments. Whilst you do this check the Image resize and compression settings havn't been inadvertently changed.

Thanks for that. It helps. A bit! It has also been suggested that I check the Quark print settings making sure that output is set to normal and that the 'Full resolution tiff output' box is checked. But the strangest thing is that this has happened at all! I have never had this problem before so why would it suddenly happen? The problem logos were third party - could it be something to do with the way they were created in the first place? And some were eps files, not just Tiff. Thanks.

OPI has always been a problem, different versions of quark have struggled with each others OPI, it can get into EPS and PDF and confuse on another level. I don't know anyone who has used it in the last 10 years and it really ought to be off by default these days. Allowing postscript to overwrite Distiller settings will only make a difference if there is a problem. If you leave this on then why bother using Distiller settings at all?

    Hi there

I have encountered a similar problem I am using quark 6 up to 8 and I also have problems when making a pdf file. I output files for 4 colour and customers also send me PDF's created from quark. When they create the PDF if makes a white wash or haze over the images in the file. For example a business card with a full photo in the background and text on top is created and once the PDF is created the quality is poor and as mentioned a white haze over the whole card. I have created the PDF in Quark as well as creating an eps and distilling it using distiller but both have the same out come. Any ideas? I thought all PDF files created from Quark where print ready files.
