    Applying tabs - Q8 different from Q6-7?

I have always been able to make the tab settings right in paragraph 1 (e.g. by pasting in a first character with the right tabs on it), then select down from there, go into tabs and click in the tabs bar. That applied the tabs from the first paragraph to the rest of the text.

In Quark 8, this doesn't work - it shows me all the tabs from the selected paragraphs rather than just the ones in the top one (I think).

I don't want to shift-alt-click as this picks up more characteristics than I want.

I don't want to do it via a style sheet as there are too many character style variations and I'd end up losing them.

Is there a simple alternative I've missed?

     Thanks

    Emma

Hey Emma. I just tried a quickie test where I made some paragraphs with default tabs, set some tab stops in one paragraph and copied the first character from that paragraph to just before the first character of an un-edited paragraph and the tabs kicked in without changing any other attributes. Its not as convenient as selecting several paragraphs at once, but it works.

But if it's a table (I mean an old-style one with tabs, not a Quark Table) with 200 lines in it, that's not much fun!

Hi Emma, I have a thread going about the exact same issue. It is completely different in quark 8. The solution offered above does not wok on tables unfortunately. It gives you either just the first tab stop or none at all. I know what you're going through, it's quite a pain when you have to reset everything, while before it was just an easy click to apply! Let me know if you figure anyhting out.

I have always pasted the first character like you; UNTIL QUARK 8. The Shift-Alt-click has helped considerably but brings in more than the tab settings. Today I also encountered another problem where a table had been rotated 90 degrees. I needed to alter the tabs as a column had been removed so thought it would be easier to put it back to zero degrees to adjust. When I went to the tabs they had changed to something completely different. Thought it was just me so tried another table and the same happened. Next, kept the table at 90 degrees, selected tabs, completely different tabs to the text I had selected, so unfortunately had to start from scratch. Would like to know if there are any nifty ways around this as it was much easier in Quark 6. Darren
