In Quark 6.5 I was able to create PDFs through the print dialogue box by setting the printer to AdobePDF 7.0 and the Printer Description to the same, as I'd set Quark's PDF preferences to 'Direct to PDF'. The page size etc was all set up as Custom sizes or to the standard paper sizes offered in the print dialogue box, an it was a very simple process to create a PDF for viewing by others. Distiller settings in CS2 took care of everything automatically and I could produce Low-res PDFs without even having to go to the 'PDF' options in the printer dialogue box.
In Quark 7, I cannot create PDFs at all unless I go to the Printer dialogue box and select the Print to Postscript file option in the PDF drop down menu. By trying to print directly as before, nothing is created at all - the print process goes through the motions but fails and no file is created, and I note that no PPDs are offered in the print dialogue box, the panel is just grayed out. It is odd as the Quark Preferences are set to Direct to PDF, exactly as before. I am now running Adobe CS4 with Acrobat 9 and Distiller.
I have heard that other users have the same problem. It is frustrating not be able to create low-res PDFs in the simple way we were doing before.
Does anybody have an answer to this?
