Quark 8 and high res preview issues

I have tried to research this but can't find answer that works! I have just installed Quark 8 as an upgrade to Quark 6.5 on the new Mac Pro (10.5.7), and regardless of how I set the preferences I still can't get a high res image preview. (It was fine in 6.5) All I ever get is this dialogue box: 'There is not enough disk space to create the preview cache file. Select a different preview cache location in preferences or free more hard disk space. [10095].' That is mad, I have a huge amount of space and this is a tiny image. I have set the preview in prefs to 2048MB maximum cache size. Have also tried both ' all full resolution previews' and 'selected full resolution previews'. Can anybody help please? Thanks.

Similar here. What I did was make a new regular empty folder in User: Documents. Name that new folder folderforhirezpreviewscachequark (whatever). Then back to the Preferences: Full Res Preview : select Other Folder, browse to the new folder. Select it. Done.

You are amazing! Thanks so much. But WHY isn't this in the Quark help pages or why isn't there a link? Thanks again.

Me again, This works great thanks, but the folder I made is now busting with high res image preview files which are quite big, can I just empty it as i go along assuming it will make new ones when and if I require? Thanks again.

Yes you can as this will remove gigs of unnecessary space but, I would recommend doing this periodically and, oldest - first otherwise you will lose your settings created in the document for your later projects. Initially, it doesn't matter where your folder is but ideally, your preview cache files should be placed in the Applications > QuarkXPress > Preferences > Preview Cache folder and pointed to this in the QXP Preferences.

I had the same problem !!

Got round it the same way as you guys, but does any one have an issues with it reverting back to a low res-image if you click off it / draw a box on it, it seems it has to be selected to actually show as a high res-image

You should be able to toggle on/off the previews but make sure you have View > Full Res Previews selected and 'All full resolution previews' ticked in the Preferences.

Thank you. However I just have my folder 'folderforhirezpreviewscachequark' in my Documents folder (which is working fine but I DO need to empty it!). I am on Quark 8 and can't see a Preferences folder within Applications > QuarkXPress. I think it used to be in the system folder on older OS, but it ain't there now!. (I am on 10.5.7). Sorry, but can you help further with finding that pesky > Preferences > Preview Cache folder? many thanks.

Same set up as me so try looking in mac hd > library > preferences maybe there's a folder called Quark there? You can still empty your other marked folder if it's doing the same job, just be aware that if you do, you may have to re-apply the high res preview when you visit the last project(s) you specified this action. There has been a lot of people with preference problems so if it's within the same folder as the Quark App it's a lot easier to deal with.

    Hi, all,

    davewalsh:
so if it's within the same folder as the Quark App it's a lot easier to deal with.

Please be aware that putting the preferences folder in the application folder can have unwanted side effects.

Thanks Davewalsh, I clicked the All full resolution previews and it solved the problem.

That would have bugged me as need the images to clear on screen when working in Quark.

     Cheers,

    Stu

Thanks again! The Quark Prefs were in Users>Library> Preferences> Quark> Preview cache. I have now put my folder 'folderforhirezpreviewscachequark' in the 'Preview cache' folder, and then opened Quark then Preferences and linked 'Full Res Preview' to the 'folderforhirezpreviewscachequark' in the Preview cache folder. And then trashed alot of the very big files in there when they are not necessary. I guess when I need high res for those images again it will just rebuild a new high res Preview in that folder. Just need to keep an eye on that folder from time to time as will get massive...

D'oh! You need to delete the folder 'folderforhirezpreviewscachequark' and point the Full Res Preview path to the 'Preview Cache' folder within the Preferences folder and then take a look at the the link from Matthias: http://forums.quark.com/p/19198/76711.aspx#76711
