Coloring picture background causes printer error

Working in V7.5 I have encountered printing errors if we color in a 'picture background'; if we color in the 'background color' it seems to be OK, but as soon as we bring a grayscale TIFF in to a picture box, color the 'picture background' and then try to print through an HP PS (emulated) A3 inkjet printer - the one we've been using without any problems for 3 years; a workhorse - it throws up a message on the printer - 'Printer error - turn printer off and on'. The key to this is the colored picture background - apart from coloring a picture background in white (there seems to be no problem here ,curiously) it inevitably throws up this error. This is odd because it means that the function that is offered in Quark actually is non-functional. So we are avoiding using the 'picture background coloring facility. The printer firmware is right up to date. Anybody had similar experiences? G
