Quark 7.3 15 minutes to Open

Quark 7.3 has always taken a long time to open (my other programs open quickly....) but the last few days it's been 15 minutes. (Yes...I timed it.) Our IS manager is at a loss. Preferences have been cleared out. Any suggestions or thoughts?

Hai! Does this happen when you're just opening the application or are you opening a particular file? Also, which preferences did you throw away? The main ones in the OSX (presuming you're using OSX) are:- hard drive > user > home > library > com.quark.QuarkXPress.plist and/or delete the folder in:- hard drive > library > preferences > Quark and then create a new one called 'Preferences' within the Application folder.

Hmm, 15 minutes is definitely not normal.

What kind of machine/OS is it? Quark 7 definitely runs better on the Mac Intel boxes than on older machines. (If it's a PC, I have no idea...Mac guy...) :-)

Have you thought about updating to 7.31 or 7.5?

Are you using a font management program to auto-activate fonts? Sometimes it can take a while to activate fonts, particularly if you have it set to activate fonts in EPS files contained in the document. I don't think it would be 15 minutes though. And that would only be a delay in opening a document, not just starting up Quark by itself.

    Hello Donna,

Please try the following steps :

    1. Navigate to HDD//users//current user//Library//Preferences//Quark//QuarkXPress 7
    2. Rename the folder named QuarkXPress 7 to "old QuarkXPress 7" at the above location
    3. Navigate to HDD//Applications//QuarkXPress 7
    4. Rename the folder named Preferences  to Old Preferences at the above location
    5. Now navigate to HDD//Applications//QuarkXPress8//Xtensions//
    6. Drag the Xtensions named OPI.xnt and Vista.xnt to the folder  named Xtensions disabled at the location HDD//Applications//QuarkXPress8//
    7. Try to launch the application,

It should open faster than before.

    I hope this helps!
