What about appending the layout? Make a new document of the same size and append (File>Append) the entire layout. Save, delete the empty default layout, save. Does that help?

Thanks for the reply. Haven't tried that yet...but just now trying to copy a picture frame and a paragraph of text from the original 8.0.1 doc. I get the "quark is updating file...only one time..." and it goes into the spinning wheel...and then crashes. I have no other extenstions installed in quark. I will try to turn off any unsanity system extensions and see. I tried to load up 8.0.1 version but now recieve startup errors on that. I may reinstall 8.0.1 again. The only reason i updated to 8.0.2 was the 32,000 character drop cap issue. Hopefully I can open 8.0.2 docs in 8.0.1...???  I just saved a backup in v7.

I just reinstalled 801 and now get same error (quark is optimizing...only one time...) in that app and it crashes. Will have to run more test...

Got it going...so far the old document I am trying to copy from is missing startup fonts...which doesn't concern me as i only need to copy data. I activated all 3 or 4 families and so far no "optimizing" quark prompt. Will write more if i still have problems (i still have my unsanity extensions off too)

moneyslinger. It's my unprofessional advice to suggest taking a good look at your harddrive. To me it sounds like something else deeper in the system is going on here. I may be wrong (probably am) but I'd run Disk Utility from your boot disk and Verify your disk. If that fails, repair it. You might also try repairing permissions. If you find that Disk Utility is not sufficient it may be time for something stronger, like Disk Warrior.

I'm saying this because in general I've never heard of a bad interaction between APE, Unsanity haxies and QuarkXPress. It may be that your drive is starting to go and this may be the first sign. I may be completely wrong, but checking the disk with DU won't hurt it.

understand...it may not be unsanity. i just happen to have that off when i tried activating all my fonts before copy/pasting. I will know for sure after i log out and back in with unsanity active. Will let you know. Keep in mind this is 801 i reinstalled and working now too. I will try 802 a bit later...need to get some work done first :)

Re: Problem with 8.0.2 update anyone?

Seems there may have been a problem font involved in the matter. I now have 801 and 802 installed and seems I can run either while replacing that font for another. That will help me keep producing while confirming 802 does not give me more problems. Will post if any problems. I think unsanity was just a coincidence. Thanks for your help...!!!

No problem. Font issues are a real pain and often hard to diagnose, so I'm glad you figured it out. Good luck!
