    Re: Quark 3.31 question

If the Mac is seeing a QuarkXPress document as a Unix file, simply add the three letter extension.

For QuarkXPress 3/4/5 that would be: .qxd (QuarkXPress Document)

For QuarkXPress 6/7/8 that would be: .qxp (QuarkXPress Project)

If you then double-click to open the document and it still does not open, then go into XPress and open the file via the File>Open command.

Yes, the resource fork may be stripped out. But adding the three letter extension forces OSX to recognize the file.

    Glad you are (almost) sorted.

Regarding the resource forks being busted off, it might help if you add .qxd to the old files before opening them in the latest version of Quark.

Perfect!  I know that info will be very useful in the coming months.

Thank you to all who helped point me in the right direction.

    Re: Quark 3.31 question

Thanks for the help. I did have some time and went to the additional software disk and installed I think Classic Support, which  created an Applications OS9 folder and a system folder. Then I copied my Quark 3.31 from the G3 and it opened without any issue, it just tells me that classic is starting up.

If anyone would need any additional information concerning my G5 I would be happy to provide. Now on to fonts...can't wait!

     Fonts. Lovely!

On that note though. Just for completeness here, if you use a font manager such as Suitcase, X1 was the last version that would work with QXP 4. And it did that through some sort of bridging. Suitcase 10 is probably more appropriate to work OSX/Classic with but I don't think 10 has support for XPress 3.x. Any earlier version is going to be OS9 only and probably won't work.

Of course, all this assumes you are a Suitcase user.
