Quark and Adobe are as bad as each other!

I'm fed up the the arrogant, unhelpful attitude both quark and adobe have towards their customers. Do they not understand that businesses want to upgrade their software but often cannot afford to do it all in one go and need to stagger the upgrade process. We'd love to upgrade to Snow Leopard but to do this and still receive support from these companies we'd have to upgrade to Quark 8 and Adobe CS4 at the same time. You're actually shooting yourselves in the foot by acting this way. If you continued to support us we would be more inclined to upgrade our copies of Quark maybe in 6 months time, now that is out of the question. we'll skip this version of Quark completely and possibly faze it out altogether. It wouldn't take that much effort to continue to support us, we may never actually need your support but the fact that it isn't an option on a 2 year old purchase of many thousands of pounds is a disgrace

And what will the cost be for you in waiting for say CS5 and QuarkXPress 9? Better add Intel Macs in to your pricing because that's the only Macs those programs will run on. Except perhaps QXP 9.x

It's very hard paying for all this stuff. I get it. I've been trying to get my boss to pay for upgrades/updates for over 5 years. We're still using a Classified Management system that's circa 1993. And things are very tight. But at some point you got to pay. Because if you don't, the industry will bury you because you can't keep up (and the you I'm using here is a collective "you," not you personally).

Financial planning for upgrades/updates should figure in to the balance sheet on a regular basis. Unfortunately for us, my boss ends up paying high prices through the nose at the last possible moment to avert disaster because it's one of the last things on his mind.

What do you mean by "the same time?" Do you mean you couldn't get Quark 8 or CS4 without getting both?

And if I understand what your trouble is, you have Quark 7 or earlier and CS3 or earlier and they don't run under Snow Leopard. Is that correct? If so, you are asking both companies to write patches for programs they don't sell any longer so they can be made compatible with an OS that didn't exist when those versions were being sold. Right?

If that's what you want, I hope you can get it. Personally, I have no idea how many man-hours it would take to create those patches, or how much it would cost, but I'd bet the number of people who would be willing to pay for that effort is pretty low.

You might also consider what your response would be if one of your clients called and said: "You remember that 64-page black and white job you did for us two years ago? We just got a new color printer, and we want you to redo it in color, but we don't want to pay for it."

But like I said, I hope you can get what you want. Or you could keep the OS you have that works with your software.

I think Quark, Adobe and Apple should make Snow Leopard, CS5 and XPress 9.9 all run fabulously on my Mac IIci!

and by "at the same time" I mean if we want to install snow leopard we are forced to upgrade adobe and quark now, if we want to be able to receive support. something we can't afford to do with the number of copies that would involve

I'm sorry you're having a bad time, but insulting me when I'm trying to help you is just bad manners. If you want help with something, ask. If you just want to complain, don't expect any help from me. I didn't write this program.

I've never been called a "fanboy" before. "Die-hard Quark fan" (thanks Almaink! Smile ) yes, but not a fanboy. I feel special now!
