Different text box color when copied and pasted to new document

Hello.  I am new to this forum and hope this is the correct area for such a question.

I created a new color (CMYK) for a text box in one document.  I then needed to copy and paste that box to a different document.  When I did so, the "new" text box had a slightly different, more blue color.  I checked the CMYK values in Edit/Colors... and they are the same for both the original and copied text boxes.  So why would one appear differently than the other on my monitor?

I do not have a color printer to see if they actually print the same.  Nonetheless, why wouldn't the colors appear the same in both docs on my monitor?

    I'm using QuarkXPress 7.1 on Mac 10.4.11.

    Thanks for any help. :-)

My first thought is that one document is using "Quark XPress 7.0 default" settings, and the other is using "Quark XPress Emulate Legacy".

To check, open both documents and then from the menu bar: Quark XPress - Preferences - Print Layout - Colour Manager (towards the bottom of the list).

    Hope this helps.

I thought Quark preferences stayed the same from document to document unless one manually changed them in the Preferences menu.  Guess I was wrong.

Thanks, Phil in Welland Big Smile  That fixed it.

Now I have a similar problem.

A pdf file, opened in Acrobat, shows the correct royal purple along the spine of a book cover.

When I open the pdf file in a picture box, the spine appears dark blue.  I checked that the setting Preferences -> Color Manager was set to QuarkXPress 7.0 Default and even tried various other settings in that window, but still what should be purple remains blue.

Why purple in Acrobat, but not in Quark?  What else do I need to check?  (Version 7.1)

    Thanks so much.

Thanks Phil, I have come across this problem many times and never knew how to fix it.
