Now this will make one wonder. I hate to say this but I've got a PowerPoint version 11.5.5 which I am doing a presentation for a client and it has worked flawlessly. Go figure that. Come on Quark and Apple it hurts me to think Microsoft has done something right?

What was the reason for going from a stable and productive 10.5.8 to a brand new 10.6.1? The biggest rule for freelancers and production environment folks...let someone else bleed. I would revert all your Macs to 10.5.8 until there's a good reason and adequate time/resources for the required testing. Lesson learned. Don Montalvo, TX

You are absolutely right. If it ain't broken, don't mess with it. I guess a moment of stupidity creeped in and hope that by this time someone could get it right before release. This is absolutely unacceptable for what we pay for the programs and the number of years we have payed and played their game. Hell, I am about ready to go back to doing it by hand. It worked and I didn't have nearly the problems I have to deal with now in an arena I do not want to deal with, coding issues.

I have a leading problem that hasn't been mentioned yet. Using the + or – leading value gives truly silly results yet typing in the actual value is fine: ie, 24pt head with leading of +1 inserts a leading of closer to +30, but if I change +1 to 25pt leading, it's fine. This applies to all my legacy files in which all of the headlines are blown out of their bounding boxes.

I'm following-up on your post from 9/12: Has Quark made any inroads into this problem? I'm truly going insane with this... Thanks, -Doug

Not that I am aware of. In the interest of not losing my mind, I have solved the problem really easly. I junked Snow Leopard and went back to Tiger and it has made life soooooooooooooooooooo easy. I am going to wait until the dust settles on all this Snow Leopard issues and then try again. Good Luck!

Replacing fonts to OpenType version is definitely helps. I'm using TransType Pro to convert problematic fonts. This is additional work but may be better sollution than manual fixing 300-page files. Who can think that trusty PS fonts becoming a problem now. Bummer.

Why is it so eerily silent in here and noone's updating us on what's going on? Come on guys how hard can it be to figure it out? InDesign works why can't you fix Quark? I'm ready to install this update I paid my hard earned dollars for. Especially now that Apple will not refund my money for it. Tighten up ... sheez

I signed up for a monthly account on Lynda.com and watched the turtorials for InDesign last week.  I am currently converting all my active jobs that were started in Quark, to InDesign.

I'm sorry to say it, but QuarkXPress is a dead horse. I've known this for years but I've always ignored things like printers saying, "you are the only client we have that still uses Quark." Or clinets specifically asking me "to lay this out in InDesign in case we need our in-house people to tweak it later."

It's been a good run Quark, over 10 years for me, but the time has come to move on. I will miss having an alien delete my boxes with a laser.

P.S. - Quark-to-HTML? What where you guys thinking?

I notice that a few of you mention going back to leopard - is there an easy way of rolling back at all - or is it a case of starting again and reinstalling everything? - really appreciate help with this one!!

Jamie, If you have full system back-up (Time machine or any other) it will be the easiest way. Another way I know is a manual reinstall which can take lots of time and can be pretty painful. I decide to stay with SL and rework fonts as a OpenType in TransType Pro - not easy, but a solution. Another Question to everybody: Where can I find font preview cash in Quark? Half of the fonts are not showing as they look, it happens recently;(

It seems like 10.6.2 is just around the corner. Is there any word on whether these font issues have been addressed in this update? I may be making a wild assumption, but presumably Quark will have been privy to the pre-release builds of 10.6.2 and would be able to let us know if a fix is coming. This is my busiest time of year and I normally work at home on weekends and evenings to keep up; trouble is I bought a new Mac for home that runs Snow Leopard and I don't have access to another Leopard machine. Need info................

Hi Matthias, is this all you can say????? This topic started 2 month ago and since no one major issue was fixed. Is it only me or it looks like you guys are too slow and ignorant? Do you understand how many hours/money we (designers, art directors, freelancers, business owners, etc.) are loosing/spending on working around these issues? Please fix these font issues ASAP, your answer is not good enough!!!

I have bailed out of this whole mess and posted a message several weeks ago of how to resolve these issues very easily. I too have work to do (a 72 page catalog) and the only way under these circumstances is to go back to Tiger or Leopard until all this has been settled or dump Quark and use InDesign. It's a sad case when what was a good product and company can't resolve major issues in a reasonable timeframe. Seems like Adobe did.
