Who else is having problems in Snow Leopard?

I have no idea why Quark has stated that 8.1 is fully compatible with Snow Leopard because it certainly isn't on my machine. Many of my documents (that were created in v8 in Leopard) are now completely useless because of odd text reflow problems. This seems to be an issue with some fonts - Frutiger, MetaPlus and Bliss are just three that have messed up my layouts. Cheers Quark - now I have to wipe my machine AGAIN and go back to Leopard. Who else is having problems (or are most of you wise enough not to install a brand new OS, despite Quark's assurances!)

Did you try to check your Font Manager. Sometimes its helps to temporarily clear the Fonts from the Database. Suitcase or FontExplorer need fixes from time to time. Is there an Update available? Sometimes it helps to clear the FontCaches. Just ideas…but no problems here so far. Frutiger, Meta and Bliss are ok here.

I am facing the same problems. Upgrade to Snow Leopard and Quark 8.1. Result: All my documents, created in 8.0.2 and Leopard are destroyed. Type is in wrong positions inside the text box. That means we have a couple of nightshifts ahead to rework approx. 90 several-page-documents! Cheers, Apple and Quark... that much to 'full compatibility'!!!!! I work with Apple Mac since 20 years, Quark from the very first version... but somehting like THAT, NEVER happened before!! @ Apple and Quark: Is there any solution in sight???

Exactly the same problems here. This is on a clean install on a wiped hard drive, using Linotype Font Explorer. Caches are clean.

Re: Who else is having problems in Snow Leopard?

After a day of PAIN I've finally figured a way of sorting this problem out WITHOUT having to revert back to 10.5.8 (however it is a bit of a pain and requires a version of Quark 7 as well). First of all, open a Quark 8 file and export as a version 7 project. Then, In Quark 7, export as a version 6 project. Open the version 6 project in Quark 7 or 8. The font issue is resolved and your text looks fine again. However, non of your transparencies or drop shadows work! Don't worry about this now. Delete everything that is on the page and save this file (I called mine Quark v6). Now re-open your original Quark 8 project. Copy everything out and paste it into the document from v6. Hey presto! Everything is back to normal and looks like it should. On certain documents you may have to tweak a bit of tracking here or there, but at least the fonts show and the leading is as it should be. Now save this as a new file and away you go. If you happen to have an old Quark file that were made on version 6, you can just copy/paste your version 8 stuff into that file (this is how I found out about this). The pain is that you will have to do this every time you need to access a document from before the upgrade. I would also recommend you use the Quark 6 document for new files as well to avoid any issues when sending artwork to a printer later. Hopefully Quark will release an update which solves this problem permanently for everyone on Snow Leopard!

Font Explorer is actually not compatible with Snow Leopard! 10.5.x is the last compatible OS.

Re: Who else is having problems in Snow Leopard?

Two issues that I know of:
The “Clean System Font Folders” function attempts to disable protected fonts (as previously reported) Fonts activated by FontExplorer X Pro which are not located in one of the default system font folders will not be available to the system-wide Fonts panel after a restart or re-login
Don't seem like major problems unless you restart regularly. No problem activating / deactivating fonts here, in either v7 or v8.
