    8.12 bugs and requests

Couple of bugs I noticed in QXP 8.12.

When you have the Text Overflow window open and click on your document the Text Overflow window disappears behind your open document.

When working with the "Layout as PDF" window, if you enter an invalid page number or range more than twice XPress locks up and a force quit is needed.

    Some requests:

Would you add a Page sequence pop-up menu (All/Odd/Even) in the PDF Page options panel.

The little page numbers that appear in the page navigator pop-up -- could they be made bigger/bolder/reversed out of a little box. They're near impossible to read on complex pages.

Bring back the full screen for new docs preference setting.

A couple for you: • hanging (spinning wheel) on some documents when you open them up and get the font cannot be found dialogue box • hanging (spinning wheel) on some documents when you create a box, import and picture and then resize it with the image resize handles This is on a fresh install of 10.6.1 and Quark 8.12

One thing is for sure, we can't do the drag and drop into a drawn box since the 8.12 this morning... I used to be able to drop an image into a predetermined box and it would actually take the same properties the box already had, if I had a picture in it at 50%, the new pic dropped in the box would got right to 50%... but since this morning and the new 8.12, this won't work at all - it just drops the picture onto the page at 100% - so you can't replace anymore. Dropping text works no problem.... Also, something very silly - if you want to go to page B2, you have to type B2 and not b2 - the B must be Cap - never did before 8.12. And why did Quark make the page numbers in the thumbnails on the Layout palette smaller - they should have made them bigger and made it clearer on which page your are actually on within the layout.... like in Q7. Please, stop changing things that actually worked...

It looks like I've changed my mind and am not going to install the 8.12 version. I like the drag and drop image thing (annoyed the heck out of me when a new picture didn't keep the properties set for that box) and the other bugs noted above. I'll live without the native transparency for now, until they create an update that doesn't take away useful functions.

     Hi, memoproCA,

did drag and drop suddenly stop one morning or did it stop when you installed the upgrade? If the latter, then the link AD posted explains it: 8.1 changed the behavir that you do not accidently drop pictures into boxes already containing a picture. Hold the command key while dropping, then you can "override" this behavior.

If not and the software suddenly one morning behaved differently, then this indicates that something else changed (e.g. you installed something, disk got corrupt etc.). Then try to remember what might have changed.

Whether picture attributes are being applied or not when you import (or drag & drop) a new picture into a box is a preference that you probably changed, look at the setting of "Maintain Picture Box Attributes" in "Preferences > Application > Input Settings" and enable this. Then your desired behavior is back.

About the page number in the layout palette, I compared v7 and v8 and I see no difference under Leopard. You are right about the case sensitivity of prefixes, something I am surprised about too, let me check please why this is the case.

    Re: 8.12 bugs and requests

This all started after 8.12 install. Okay for the drop pictures, but the size of the page number in the Palette is almost half the size since the install from 8 to 8.12. Anyway, this is no biggie, but I wish they were bigger and that it was easier to know which page I'm on - make the page in the palette of a different color or something. Anyway, I do appreciate all your help. I've been a full Quark user since version 3 and probably will be forever and Quark 8 has been the best version ever even with these little quirks. thanks

I was wandering this too! I thought "Wow! 8.12 brings us a Text Overflow window! Brilliant idea!" But it seems there's no such one :-(

Are you using Windows Vista by any chance?

Utilities menu, second item from the bottom. A small palette window that lists text overflow boxes. Pretty neat.

I must be getting old. Of course, the XML Import XT adds this (which I have disabled as I personally never import XML on the Desktop). You are right, I add this as a bug.

Oh, that overflow text palette… I hoped about one showing the overflowed text (or at least giving some info about)…

That's what it does. It shows you the page number of the overflowed text and the first few words of the para. And if you click the Show button it takes you to that text box.
