    Removing "ThinSpace" funky bullet

    Hi,

We recently upgraded to Quark 8.02 (Windows) and have these funky bullets appearing where they should not be! After a little searching, I have discovered they are the result of pressing Control-Shift-8 for a bullet - and inserting this funky bullet that appears to the right of the cursor. (I have discovered that ALT-Shift-8 will insert a bullet correctly.)

My question is this: is there a way to go through a large document and find each instance where this funky bullet (hence, called a ThinSpace by looking at Utilities-Insert Character-Special) appears? I have also seen it appear in places where there is NOT a bullet. Since these 'ThinSpace' bullets actually print, it would not be a good thing if we did not get them all deleted prior to publishing our product!

     Please help!

     Thanks, Dawn

Have you tried entering one of the bullets you are talking about into the Find field of Find/Change—either by keying it in or copying an existing one—and entering the bullet you prefer into the Change field?

You can update to 8.12 and check again. Thin space should not print a bullet, I guess there was a problem that might have got fixed.

I was able to copy the funky bullet and paste it into the Find spot - it displays as \. and DOES find the funky bullets. My issue before when I was trying to do the search for it was that I was trying to do the keystroke that makes the funky bullet in the Find spot instead of putting in the actual bullet. Doi!

I will also do the upgrade to 8.12 but at least now I know how to find the darn things! Thanks everyone!

Some of the things you can search for can't be keyed into the search field. For example, if you place the cursor in the find field and hit the tab key, it will tab ove to the change field, so you might think you can't search for tabs. But, if you copy a tab and paste it into the find field, it will look like this: \t. Its the same with a paragraph return \p, next column \c, next box \b, and a few others. You can also type those codes into the find or change field, just not the keystrokes that you use to make them in the document.
