    Problem with Wildform Flix

When I export the QID document as a swf file, I keep getting a message saying:

    Wildform Flix Reporter: Error
The maximum bitrate specified for this input video is too low to produce with the current frame rate, audio bitrate, and video dimensions. Please reduce any of these options and try again.

If I make any of those settings lower, the resulting video looks terrible. How do I change the max specified bitrate? Is there an ideal video file type with ideal codec and an ideal size? I've tried many different combinations, but they all look terrible (distorted, pixelated, etc.).

     Thanks.

    Hi, Kenneth,

for video encoding inside Interactive Designer we licensed Wildform's Flix Exporter, now owned by On2. What options are best for encoding might be found on their website: http://support.on2.com/

    Re: Problem with Wildform Flix

     Hi Matthias.

I contacted On2, and after a number of emails back and forth with On2 support and installing 3 different Wildflix apps, I received this:

    <<I have some bad news.

I have gone through all the Quark documents, and then done more research, and have discovered that On2 doesn't support Quark Express. Quark bought the Wildform Flix SDK (i.e. software development kit) directly from Wildform in March 2005. When On2 purchased Wildform's Flix in May 2005, it was agreed at that time that Wildform would continue to support "its" customers - one of them being Quark.

The problem you are having (http://forums.quark.com/t/21991.aspx):

    Wildform Flix Reporter: Error

The maximum bitrate specified for this input video is too low to produce with the current frame rate, audio bitrate, and video dimensions. Please reduce any of these options and try again.

    and Matthias' response:

for video encoding inside Interactive Designer we licensed Wildform's Flix Exporter, now owned by On2. What options are best for encoding might be found on their website: http://support.on2.com/

    is incorrect.

The maximum bitrate has to be exposed in either Quark's New Project panel or the Export panel. It could be the Export options - I could not find any panels illustrating the contents.

For your encoding problem, you will have to continue the thread you opened with Matthias.

As for your Flix purchases, we will refund your purchase price.

I'm sorry for the bad news.

    Regards,

    On2 Desktop Technical Support>>

In the Video Export Settings window, the section titled "Rate Control" looks like it could potentially be the answer to the problem, but it is always greyed out.

    Your thoughts?

    Re: Problem with Wildform Flix

    Hi, Kenneth,

I am sorry you had to go through so much trouble. My post wasn't intended to hint towards On2 having to support you, I just saw the UI controls (that we also use) nicely explained on their website and as it is the same technology I thought it might help.

Whether Wildform or On2 supports us I am not sure, as I am not a legal person.

Anyhow, to get to the solution of your problem:

When I import a movie (.MOV), I can set Rate Control, see screen shot:

Can you post (or send me via email) what you see please?

    Thanks
    Matthias

Here are what my windows look like for the mov file I'm using:

As you can see the Rate Control portion is greyed out.

    Here is the error message:

Again, if I reduce any of the options as it suggests, the video quality is absolutely awful.

    Thanks,
    Ken

    Hi, Kenneth,

is there any reson why you use "SWF" as the videotype? That's a really old format, FLV is newer and gives you better quality.

When I choose SWF I get the same effect.

When you choose FLV, can you set it?

    Thanks

    Re: Problem with Wildform Flix

    Hi Matthias.

I switched to FLV, and was then able to access the rate control settings, unlike when I had SWF selected. The quality is far better, and I didn't get that Wildflix error message.

Good to know, and thanks for your help!
