Unusual text inset box problem on 1 out of 7 macs....

I've been using Quark for years but this one has me stumped... I've got 7 macs (G5's, G4's, iMacs) running legit versions of quark 8... but one mac (a new G5) has a problem with what looks like text inset spacing, but it's not...

If I open a file on the new mac the space at the top of the text box (before the text starts) is larger than the space opening on another machine... if I set the text inset to "0" the text still looks inset even though the preference has saved and opening it up on other macs keeps the "0" setting but looks right.....

It looks like it is a global preference but I can't think why or where or how to fix it. I only noticed because things weren't aligning and in one case the text box needed to be expanded to give the text enough space to render...

     Any ideas?

Is this the same problem as this guy had? http://forums.quark.com/t/22117.aspx

What OS's are the Macs running? If the new one is Snow Leopard I know there are issues with Type 1 fonts...

From Matthias' post elsewhere on this forum:

    IMPORTANT UPDATE:
Quark recently discovered a serious issue when using PostScript Type 1 fonts with QuarkXPress, QuarkXPress Server and QuarkCopyDesk running under Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard:
Text using a Type 1 font can shift position when opened on Mac OS X Snow Leopard, affecting the leading and vertical position of the text, as well as any drop shadows applied to the text. Quark is therefore recommending that customers who rely on Type 1 fonts not use QuarkXPress with Snow Leopard until this issue is resolved. Customers who don’t use Type 1 fonts are not affected. This issue is specific to Mac OS X Snow Leopard only and does not impact other operating systems. Quark is working with Apple on a resolution. Please watch the Quark Web site for updates as we have them.

    But also see this thread:

    http://forums.quark.com/t/21884.aspx?PageIndex=1

     - lots of it to wade through, and I'm not sure if they ever come to a conclusion. I read about this in Mac User and it really doesn't seem to be Quark's fault!

Thanks very much for the info, so much easier to deal with when you know what's goingon! Hopefully they will sort this one out quickly...

I must admit if I could get rid of snow leopard I would... it's caused quite a few issues in the studio, but buying a new mac doesn't give you much option...

    Thanks all

First off, as someone who is overly literal, which is as yet unclassified as a disability, but I wish it were sometimes, it is confusing when you refer to your new computer as a new G5. A G5  is a an older model of Apple tower. G5s can not run the new OS Snow Leopard OSX10.6. Of the Apple towers, only the ones with the intel chips in them, i.e. those named Mac Pro, can run the Snow Leopard. So, anyway, when reading this, my response was to think, "Wow, I wonder where he got a new G5. Isn't that something?"

Second, you should be able to install regular old Leopard OSX10.5 on a new Mac Pro tower because that model was shipped with that OS before the introduction of 10.6. Maybe get some authoritative confirmation of this before doing it. But could be the way to go right now.

Amazon.com. Leopard is actually CHEAPER than Tiger.
