Burning Quark file to CD locks the file. Why?

I have burnt a Quark file to CD using Finder on Mac OS10.8. When I check the files after burning I get a message saying that the file is locked and any changes will be unsaved. Why does it lock the Quark file and how can I prevent it being locked as the file will need to be edited. Thanks.

It's probably only locked on the disk itself

What kind of CD did you use ? CD-R, CD-RW?

Are you reading the "locked" file direct from the disk? Drag it onto your desktop and then you'll find that you can edit it.

Hi! This would happen with any file on a CD. It's just that the CD is not a rewritable disk so you cannot edit files straight on the CD. You must copy the file to your HD prior to make changes. Then burn it to another CD if you want. Or rewrite the CD if it's a RW one. HTH.

Also make sure the quark file is not open before you write to cd.

Yes, thanks all, I should have realised that!
