    Caron/hácek marks

Any clues how to put a caron over a c? Using type 1 Cochin but can substitute.

One annoying way would be to type it in, then track it back. That is, type the "c", then the "ˇ" (shift-option-t for this), then put the cursor between the 2 characters and use the measurement palette (or the key combination shift-option-[) to adjust the spacing between the characters. But this character should be available in some Open Type fonts. On a Mac, you can use the Character Palette (from System Preferences/International) to find Accented Latin characters, and there's probably some way in newer Quark versions to insert this type of special character (which isn't mapped to the keyboard)...but my workflow is Type 1 fonts in Quark 6.52, so I'm not really sure how this is done.

If you can substitute, then choose an Open Type font -provided you're on Quark 7 or later you'll easily insert special characters through the Glyphs palette.

If ever you're on a previous version, then I'm afraid you'll have to go the epyzee route detailed earlier. Unless you switch to a Central Europe font featuring the two glyphs into one.

Oh! maybe you can also switch the keyboard (the little flag in the top bar if you're on a Mac). Then you could probably type your text straight from it. To be tested. HTH.
