 I am working on some Chinese fliers on Mac. All the chinese are properly shown in Mac. But when I print out, I find that only some chinese appear and other show as unreadable code. Also the lay out changes a bit. Could anybody tell me how to solve it? Thanks in advance. 

I am not the East Asian expert, let me see if I can help anyhow.

First, did you update to QuarkXPress 8.12? If not, please do, it is free of charge (for users of QuarkXPress 8).

Secondly, when you print, are you downloading the fonts (font tab)?

And thirdly, are you using the option to "optimize fonts" (also font tab)?

As an additional test, can you create a PDF please? Does that work correctly?

Many thanks for your help. I have updated to the lastest version but the problem remains. 

Meanwhile, when I convert quark file into pdf file, I have found that quite some Chinese can't be read, the same as I printed out quark file. I was also told that the original .doc files came from Win system. It has slight problem when use Mac. Right now, I am really confused where the problem comes? I was thinking that I may give it try with Quark in Win version?

I have printed the original English version with the latest Quark. All words show but the lay out changes. Could you kindly tell me where to find the fonts and  what font fits me? I just totally confused what problem it is.

I can't really recommend any fonts, as that probably depends on your design.

Also I am a bit lost whether you see the missing characters already in the layout or only after exporting/printing. Can you elaborate please? Does QuarkXPress show the Chinese characters correctly or are they already lost/wrong in the layout?

Truly appreciate for your help. Sorry for confusing you. 

The lastest version can show and modify Chinese without problem in Mac. The problem arises when the file prints out in paper. Some Chinese can be seen and others like unreadable codes(see below). Besides,  when I convert a good .qxd file into pdf in Mac, it has similar problem. I copy from pdf file and paste here partially.  For example "¥ "  and " ???? " should have standed for a symbol and Chinese characters. So.qxd file is Ok unless it print out. And .pdf file has problem in Mac already.

Hi, biochip,

the font you are using has an embedding restriction, therefore QuarkXPress does not embed it.

Only workarounds: Use another font OR allow Acrobat to use locally installed fonts to display your PDF. The first way is cleaner/safer.

It should print though (direcly out of QuarkXPress). Have you checked the option to download fonts?
