Trial Version (8.12) crashes on launch

I am running Snow Leopard 10.6.2 and downloaded the trial version of Quarkxpress 8.12.  It won't launch.  It crashes every time during the splash screen. I have tried checking the box to run in Rosetta with same result. I have seen several posts on these forums with the same problem.  I can post the error log if it helps, but at first glance it looks just like the other that have been posted.  Anyone at Quark working on a solution to this?  I really don't want to go with InDesign, but will have no choice if I can't get Quark to work, and I'm certainly not going to purchase until the trial copy works.

Re: Trial Version (8.12) crashes on launch

Please Navigate to HDD>>Users>>Home user>>Library>>Preferences>>Quark>>QuarkXPress 8.12 folder and delete all the files present in this folder.

Now try to launch QuarkXPress and check the results.

    Regards,

Thanks. I tried this, but have the same result when I launch QuarkXPress.

I have been helping another forum member who had similar problems, and sent me the log. In that case, the problem boiled down to the resource fork of XPress being either damaged or stripped during the installation process. Perhaps something similar is happening in your case. Mail me your log and I can attempt a divination.

I have also been having this problem. I purchased a new computer, migrated all of my info from the old computer to the new computer. Everything works fine except for Quark 8.12. It crashes every time I open it and it doesn't allow me to activate it. I tried to remove the Quark preferences but that doesn't seem to help. Please advise.

We are having the exact same problem as benjo60 and have followed the same steps with no luck.

     Please help us Quark!

Just so you know we are using the new Imac quadcore and not a Mac Book Pro.

We recently identified the hardware variable that was causing crashes during activation. We've fixed it and will post an 8.15 update next week for affected customers. For more information see the main thread for this issue:

    http://forums.quark.com/p/22416/90594.aspx

I do NOT think this is the problem swatkins01 is having because this doesn't affect the trial version since it doesn't use activation. I'm posting it here because it's likely the cause of some other user's crash, like benjo60 and waterloorecords.

Properly not the issue here, but still I would like to add, that programs like QuarkXpress (or indesign) etc., unfortunately does not work with filevault on a mac (at least not Tiger version). So you either need to use your mac OS account without filevault, or have an extra account without filevault, where such programs can be installed and used!
