Yes [Y] If you are facing an activation issue with QuarkXPress 7 or 8…

    Hi all,

unfortunately QuarkXPress 7 and 8 have an activation issue on certain newer Apple hardware, related to changes in the address of the Firewire ports on these machines. This results in a crash during the activation process.

This issue is specific to Mac OS X and does not impact Windows versions of QuarkXPress.

If you are facing this issue (crash during activation), here's how to solve this permanently:

    Activation issue with QuarkXPress 7

If you are using QuarkXPress 7 on Tiger (= Mac OS X 10.4) or Leopard (= Mac OS X 10.5):

Please send me an email with the following information:
    1) Your contact details (at least your name, company, phone number and email address),
    2) the serial number of your QuarkXPress,
    3) the type of Mac you have,
    4) date of purchase of your Mac and
    5) Hardware Info of your Mac.

The fifth point is important. It is easily done by choosing "About this Mac" under the Apple icon and click on the "More info" button. In the resulting window choose "File > Save as…" and save as RTF or Plain Text.

Send all of the above to me via email (by using the Contact button above this post. Note that you need to be logged into the forums for that).

We will then immediately send you a solution specific to your serial number that fixes this issue permanently, so that you can continue to work. As the solution will be different for each customer and tailored to your serial number, we have to address is on a case by case basis.

As it is a straight forward solution, we should be able to get you up and running very quickly.

If you are using QuarkXPress 7 on Snow Leopard (= Mac OS X 10.6):

QuarkXPress 7 is only 100% compatible with (and officially supported on) Tiger and Leopard.

Therefore you will either need to upgrade your license to QuarkXPress 8 in order to run it successfully on Snow Leopard or downgrade your operating system to Tiger or Leopard.

    Activation issue with QuarkXPress 8

If you are using QuarkXPress 8 on Tiger (= Mac OS X 10.4), Leopard (= Mac OS X 10.5) or Snow Leopard (= Mac OS X 10.6):

QuarkXPress 8 is supported on Tiger, Leopard and Snow Leopard.

In all cases please update to QuarkXPress 8.15 (for free) to resolve the activation issue on your system permanently:

If using these steps the activation issue still exists (or if you are facing a different issue), please contact our (free) support:

    Thanks
    Matthias
