QXP 7.5 freezes opening old versions

    Hi there all,

I'm having BIG BIG issues with file version of QXP.
I have a 7.5 installation and when I try to open files of version 6.0 (created with 4.0 and 5.0) and 5.0 (created with 4.0) it freezes in the process of "Loading preview images".
files are 500 Kb of size and I'm trying to open them locally.

Also, on one test machine, the software open the files after 3/4 minutes while in other stays locked forever.

I have a lot of QXP version 6.0 files to open...

    Thanks in advance

Please hold down the "Option" key (Ctrl Key on Windows) on your keyboard while the file loads.

Please mention the OS you are using.

Thank you for the information. Lets try this:

    1. Quit QuarkXPress if running.

    2. Navigate to C:/Program Files/Quark/QuarkXPress 8. Delete the Preferences folder, if any.

    3. Navigate to C:/Documents and Settings/<Logged In User>/Application Data/. Delete the folder named Quark.

    4. Relaunch QuarkXPress.

Try opening the file in question. If that does not help please mail your file to sarbjit@quark.com or contact our live chat support.

What's in these files? Mainly text, lots of pictures, or a mix? How many pages usually. Are they simple files or really complex with lots of things going on?

Right now my suspicion would be on fonts (usually a major culprit), but I don't know enough yet. Something to try would be appending the layout. Make a document of the same size as these documents (or larger) and append the layout of the older documents to your new document.

No guarantee that will work. It may just hang there too.
