    Re: Quark and HTML5

Thank you for getting back to me. I guess regarding the HTML 5 and flash, I was not clear on what I am looking to do. I built a few sites in quark, using quark web and quark interactive. So when I exported to html the flash reads as swf files. So in viewing these sites on phones or iPads or even on the new safari in Lion OS, the flash images are not visible. I have switched now to Quark 9 and thought when I export now since this can export to iPhone etc. it would convert differently to be viewed, but I am uncertain and need a little bit of guidance. Thank you. Janine

    Hi Janine,

    ok, now I understand.

Yes, you are right, as Flash doesn't display on iOS devices, when you use your current exports, only the HTML (web layout) will display, not the SWF (Interactive layout).

If you want to design layouts for the iPad you need to use the new layout type called "App Studio" or enrich a Print layout using the App Studio palette.

    Does that explain it?

    Thanks

    Re: Quark and HTML5

I'd like to say that App Studio is a game-changing addition to QuarkXPress. It isn't perfect (1.0 product releases never are), but it is stunning.

However, I too would like to have an HTML5 export option so that I could create content to be accessed by those without iPads, and for those who might not be so inclined to download and install an app before looking at content.

Given that Adobe has recently admitted that the development of Flash mobile is discontinued (and what that says about desktop Flash's long-term survival), and Adobe's public beta of Edge, for HTML5 animated content production, I really think it is time for Quark to build HTML5 into the output options - ideally both for Interactive and App Studio productions.
