I understood most of your screencast but am a little confused on how to create the xml records from my excel spreadsheet. Isn't there a reasonable extension available just do do mail merge that isn't too complicated? I was looking at xData extension and even downloaded the demo version but that is such overkill for what I want to do. Thanks!

if you don't want to use the out-of-the-box functionality as described above, then I know a simple mail merge XTension, JoLetter:
