    Re: wishlist for quark 9

I've noticed that a post has been deleted that referred to the UI in less than glowing terms. I think the poster had a point. Not sure what the rationale for 'new' look was but it's disgraceful for professional design software to look as it does...flashbacks of Corel Draw *shiver*

    Hi Vaun,

we NEVER DELETE posts (even not unfriendly ones) UNLESS they are spam or illegal or racial etc.

Often spammers (or bots?) though think they are smart by copy & pasting text from existing posts and enriching them with links to funny websites. These of course we delete though they might appear like legitimate posts (and we don't really ever delete, it is a *move* to a hidden folder, so in case we delete one by accident). And of course sometimes I move posts to another forum.

You can find that post by Erik by searching for the name of a famous cartoon characters, that's what Erik was reminded about.

And I am sure you can argue about taste, having done hundreds of demos and workshops at customers, seminars, tradeshows and in person I have heard all kind of feedback, from absolutely thrilled to the more unfavorable reaction. Our focus groups (testing the UI before we changed it) and my anecdotal evidence though shows a clear majority pro new usability and interface of QuarkXPress 8 and 9.

    Thanks
    Matthias

Hi Matthias, I didn't mean to imply something sinister was going on :) but thanks for the clarification. About the aesthetics of UI, well I guess it takes all sorts. It just seems the chunky, fussy, dark toolbox swims completely against the current of clean, sharp minimalism. Thanks for the reply anyway. Thanks, Vaun

    Hi Vaun,

why don't you make it bright gray or Vaun-green ;-) then?

Do you know this thread: http://forums.quark.com/t/19279.aspx?

E.g. the "objects search/replace"-palette seems to fall out of style though.

Matthais, Vaun's avatar's hat appears to be poking through into your 30 years logo. or is this just another Safari glitch?

    Hi Glenn,

to me it looks like Vaun's Avatar stepped out for the weekend and left his best posession behind.

It is a good sign though, as it means that he will be coming back.

    Have a nice weekend!

Wow, haven't seen this thread in a while.

Backtracking a bit, the reference Matthias refers to is Roger Rabbit, a 90s American cartoon/live action movie. But Matthias is right. Quark had their focus groups, Matthias get's feedback all the time (and Lord knows, Dan is probably tired of hearing my comments to him). And the majority said they liked it. I'm in the minority, which means I got outvoted. I still don't care for it (and Matthias and Dan know that) but it's still a good program.

In any case I pay Matthias to make sure my posts NEVER get deleted and ALWAYS get displayed prominently. Right Matthias? Big Smile
