    Re: Text on a curve

Actually if my fading memory doesn't betray me, linking text on a path was already possible in 4.0.

Aand synchronizing text (without formatting) in 6.0 and with formatting in 7.0.

    Have a nice remaining weekend!

AHH. OK. Did not realize the linking has been available for that long. I guess I just never needed it so did not ever try anything like that. Good stuff to know for this thread though. Enjoy your snow sir and you have a good remaining weekend too.

Text on a path is also good to align baseline on a shape see here : http://xpresslife.net/22/12/2010/alignement-de-base/ (ok it's in french but there's a translate plugin on the right bar) Thanks Matthias for the sync tip, will be useful :)

If there was another, "simpler" way to do this it would be posted here. Why hold back good information from the Quark user community? What you read here is the only way to do it. One day when Quark introduces the Type In A Circle Tool it will be much easier. Sorry, not trying to be snide or rude, but this is as easy as it gets and compared to other QuarkXPress operations it's pretty easy.

Adobe Illustrator has the Type On A Path tool where you draw a circle, select the Type On A Path Tool and double-click on the circle. Even there though you have to adjust things. Illustrator is about a $500 program though, depending on where and how you buy it.

There is no freehand tool. You need to select a shape you've already made, go to Item>Modify>Shape and then select the freehand shape. It's a squiggly line looking icon.

    P.S. Thanks Max!

    Re: Text on a curve

Actually, unless I am misunderstanding something, there is a freehand tool that can create both freehand lines and freehand boxes.

It is in the fly-out menu of the pen tool and looks like a pen with a line. Select it and draw your freehand line. If you come close to the beginning of the line, the cursor chages and shows a little circle, indicating that the shape will be closed if you release the mouse button there.

Once you have your shape, double click it with the text content tool and it will become a text box (or text path).

I recommend using the bezier tool (pen tool) though, as you get less points and can draw more accurately.

I thought this would come up. No, no misunderstanding. I think it's just a matter of semantics and perspective. You are of course correct in your statement. However, from my perspective I see this tool as the Freehand PEN tool which draws shapes/boxes. Base on my tortured perspective, this is a variant of the pen tool. You won't find the tool directly in the tool palette. You have to select the pen tool first and then wait for the flyout.

I know. It's a dumb perspective. And it's down to semantics. It's just the way it's catalogued in my head though.

    Hi Erik,

ah, you put out bait ;-)

Well, you could move the tool into the main tool palette by ctrl+clicking it. Would that qualify it as a freehand tool?

    Thanks
