How do I downsave to QuarkXPress 6 from QuarkXPress 7?

Due to popular demand, here's how:

    1. Use File -> Export -> Layout as Projects
    2. In the "Version" popup choose "6.0"
    3. Choose the appropriate format ("single" for US versions or International English versions, "multiple" for Passport).
    4. Make sure, you update your QuarkXPress verison 6 to 6.52. Open.

    Done.

    Best regards

Never mind. I just assumed it would pop up there with the other 2 messages that are above the main posts.

They show that they are "stickied forever". The other (time-bombed) stickies are not up there, they stay at the start of the "Post" section even if I sticky them for a year.

The new forum has lots of things to discover for me ;-)

Re: How do I downsave to QuarkXPress 6 from QuarkXPress 7?

There is a complete article on downsaving to lower versions of files in the Quark Virtual Knowledge Base that I've copied below for you. We also have many technical articles posted in the Knowledge Base at: http://www.quark.com/service/desktop/support/techinfo/knowledgebase.html

How to Save Projects Down to an Earlier Version

Applies to: QuarkXPress 7 & 8 - Mac OS, Windows

Introduction: How can I save my QuarkXPress 8 projects down to version 7 or version 6?

More Information: Beginning with QuarkXPress 6.0, you can only save a file one version down. For example, you can down-save a project from QuarkXPress 8 to version 7 and from QuarkXPress 7 to version 6. However, you cannot down-save directly from version 8 to version 6. Therefore, if you want to save a version 8 project down to version 6, you will need to save from version 8 to version 7 and save again from version 7 to version 6.

Note: If you are running any PLUS Edition of QuarkXPress 8, you can also down-save projects directly to Japanese and Korean 6.5, but only for these two language versions.

To save a QuarkXPress 8 project to QuarkXPress 7.0 format (or, for QuarkXPress 8 PLUS Edition, to Japanese or Korean 6.5):

    1. Go to File > Export > Layouts as Project. The Export Layouts as Project dialog box opens.
    2. Choose 7.0 from the Version drop-down menu.

To save a QuarkXPress 7 project to QuarkXPress 6.0 format:

    1. Go to File > Export > Layouts as Project. The Export Layouts as Project dialog box opens.
    2. Choose 6.0 from the Version drop-down menu

The Export Layouts as Project dialog box also lets you specify which layout spaces to include if you don’t want to export the entire project.

I downsaved my v7 file to v6 and the file size went from 8,232 kb to 79,581! Can anyone tell me why and how I can get the downsaved file to a size I can email to my client?

Re: How do I downsave to QuarkXPress 6 from QuarkXPress 7?

I have done this before with no problems. Now when I open my Qk 7 file, and do the export save to 6 option, it says "file is already open"

and it does not  save as 6 .. remains at 7. !!!

Is that possible to downsafe a library from 7 to 6?

No it isn't. What you can do is pull all the elements out in to a new document. Downsave the document, create a new library in the older QXP and then open the downsaved document and place the items in the new library.

But downsaving librarys. No you can't.

Re: How do I downsave to QuarkXPress 6 from QuarkXPress 7?

    Hi

I work with Quark 8 but my costumer needs Quark7. I export all the book to 7. But when I check it I  find that some paragraphs subtle changes partition and in some cases causing them to move other elements that I have to correct ... at the end Imake the PDF I have to send to print on the 7 ... Question: Why does not the same partition if there is no difference in the preferences, styles, etc. ....? Neither system works the same grid snapping and sometimes the lines move ....

    thanks
