    SetFillColor Invalid Context???

Intel iMac/Os 10.5.2: I opened a Quark 4.11 file in Quark 7.3.1 and after importing/minor repairs, it displayed fine. But at some point after that, while working on the document, resaving it under a new filename and printing to PDF, I started to get error messages in Console - thousands of them which were repeating over and over for as long as the file was open (even if left idle). If anyone knows what could have caused this, I need to put a stop to it. Here's an extract from the continuously growing log which now has over 5000 of these errors showing :

This is all Greek (or Unix) to me but I got this from Apple's developer site:

    setFillColor:
    Specifies the receiver’s fill color.
    - (void)setFillColorSadNSColor *)fillColor
    Parameters
    fillColor
    Fill color for the receiver.
    Special Considerations
Functional only when the receiver’s box type (boxType) is NSBoxCustom and its border type (borderType) is NSLineBorder.
    Availability
Available in Mac OS X v10.5 and later.
    See Also
    – fillColor
    Declared In
    NSBox.h

I naturally took a look at the new boxes I had created in the document and they all looked very standard. For reasons yet unknown, the PDF I tried to create using the latest Distiller PPD (Acrobat Pro v8.12) did not materialise but one I created with Apple's built-in Save As PDF is fine.

    Thanks for any clues!

You might want to try opening the original (v4) doc in v7 again, but before proceeding, do a thumbnail drag to a new v7 project and save that. Be careful if you have index tags, since they don't survive a thumbnail drag.

Hm, further investigation proves it to be not associated with my old document. As soon as Quark launches, I get a slew f these alerts in Console, about 150 of them. If I switch focus from the Quark app to any other and then click back on the Quark app I will get another 150. If I open a new document in Quark I will get a thousand or more of these messages - and as I work on the document they keep looping until my Console window maxes out at 4000 log messages.

I'm now wondering if it's something to do with the Quark "Color Manager.qrc" file which initially failed to load when I recently reinstalled Quark on my new 10.5.2 system but did appear after a fresh install.

I work in splendid isolation here so can't check with another user to see if my Console log is exceptional.

    SetFillColor Invalid Context???

Like the original poster, I'm experiencing very similar problems. But I'm running a G4 DP867 on OS X 10.4.11 (not yet on Leopard) with Quark 7.3.1. It seems like it takes 2 minutes for Quark to launch. AND two minutes for it to quit. In between, it seems to work ok.

So I checked Console to look for anything strange, and sure enough, I found repeating error messages like this:

    Feb 20 10:04:17 Computer-2 /Applications/QuarkXPress 7.3/QuarkXPress.app/Contents/MacOS/QuarkXPress: CGContextSetFillColorWithColor: invalid context
    Feb 20 10:04:17 -Computer-2 /Applications/QuarkXPress 7.3/QuarkXPress.app/Contents/MacOS/QuarkXPress: CGContextSetFillColorWithColor: invalid context
    Feb 20 10:04:17 -Computer-2 /Applications/QuarkXPress 7.3/QuarkXPress.app/Contents/MacOS/QuarkXPress: CGContextSetFillColorWithColor: invalid context

I also see this error repeated a couple of times:

2008-02-20 10:21:00.088 Finder[183] CFLog (0): CFPropertyListCreateFromXMLData(): Old-style plist parser: missing semicolon in dictionary.

I haven't contacted tech support about this since it IS working OK, just slow to start/quit. My theory is that it may be some programming code error somewhere that will hopefully get fixed in another update.

One other weird thing which may or may not be related - I'm seeing a "recovered items" folder generated in my trash every day containing quark related temp files. Quark hasn't crashed but I see this almost daily.

Anybody else check their console and "recovered" folder and see something like this?

    SetFillColor Invalid Context???

just checked my console too - i have about 12 of these messages - but quark is running fine and error free - perhaps we should be just ignoring these messages!?

    Have a look at this:

Thanks for the link (I did a search here before I posted but nothing came up for SetColorFill...). I am somewhat reassured by that reply... but still concerned at the quantity of error messages I get -- filling up the log with 4000 alerts within a few minutes of opening Quark.

The only operational problem I have had is Quark refusing to quit and not responding to Force Quit.
