AutoCorrectXT 3.0 Update Kills my QuarkXPress 8

Hmmmm.... I updated my AutoCorrectXT 3.0 XTension early today and it worked exactly once.

When I quit QXP and launched it again later on it failed to launch.

Restarting my Mac and relaunching QXP did not help.

Anybody else having problems with AthenaSoft XTensions ??

Quark 8 in Windows to Quark 8 on Mac and/or InDesign

I have clients in both camps and without getting into any fights, here is the situation I find myself in, I received what a client says is a Quark 8 file from a Windows desktop. The file doesn't have an extension, but does have a "_SF" at the end of it. I need to work on the file, and then provide a Mac friendly InDesign document to a third party designer. I've heard of the Markzware Q2ID, but before I shell out the $199, I want to make sure it'll open the windows quark file on a mac in InDesign. To me this sounds like a tall order. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Barcodes

Hello, I am new to this forum and hoping that someone can provide me with some information regarding barcodes. I need to generate UPC A barcodes for product catalogs that my company creates. The catalogs contain anywhere between 350-700 items so I am going to need to do a lot of barcodes so copying and pasting individual graphics is not a preferable option. BarCoder XT seems like a fine solution, however I need to find something that will run on both a Mac and PC so that seems to be making this process even more difficult. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Q4 Xmath-want to upgrade to Q8--what extensions are available for fractions etc

our math books are created using PC Q4 using Yorks Xmath. Has anyone converted books to Q6? We cannot edit the math--no Xmath extension!

I don't believe that xmath came out with an extension for Q6 or higer. Did they? I can't even find info about them on the web.

the catch is that we would love to upgrade, but our books are in Q4 using x-math for the fractions, equations etc. (qx tools too!) When we make edits to these books, we need to match the xmath sets.

What other math extensions are available? Can anyone verify that they have had this issue too?

8.12 Guide manager extension

I have fresh clean instal of 8.12, running on Mac OS X 10.6.1. I work as a standard account, not using Admin account day-to-day. Anyone please tell me how to make Guide Manager Pro Extension visible? On start-up, the XT manager says all extensions (incl Guide manager) are active and correct. I tick the Guide option in Window menu. It becomes ticked. But no palette appears. Other palettes appear. Guide by guide I can lock, but once locked cannot unlock. aaarrghhh help, please?!

Anything besides Bookletizer?

My company got Bookletizer a while ago for Quark 7...now with Quark 8, you can't unbook any Quark 7 docs that you bookletized...besides that there's other stupid things the plugin does when unbooking, like moving stuff that you have off to the side INTO the document...and any thing on the left pageover the middle line separating two pages gets deleted.

Is there a better paginator plugin for Quark then Bookletizer? I mean, it does what its supposed to do, but not as easily as it should.

XprssMath superets

I' m an new user of XpressMath. I' m using Quark 7.31 and in my system Mathematical Pi, Arial and Symbol fonts are installed. When i' m using XpressMath i notised that a lot of characters are not mapped correctly. For instance in XpressMath documenation says that when you are in Pi 1 and you type 'a' the result is the symbol '>'. That' s not my case and the displayed symbol is again 'a'.

As far i can understand there is a problem with default superset file (?). Also i have no idea where this file is located in my system (i' m under Windows XP)/ Does anyone has a correct supersets file so can send to me or help me how to solve this issue?

But it seems impossible to find anything out about them, is there a trial or example version that I can use to evaluate whether it would be the right thing for me? Currently I maintain a few tools for my company using applescript, but as they grow in complexity I'm wondering whether writing XTension would be a better way of doing it.

multilingual packaging and database extension

We are looking for a way of automatically populating text boxes in packaging artwork with different languages. Each piece of packaging would have 3 to 4 languages. All text, in all languages is in an excel spreadsheet or database of some description. Is there a database xtension that would enable this to be achieved, bearing in mind that each product has different packaging in a different quark file, unlike a directory or similar which would have data from many records in one document this would only have one record in each piece of artwork but many different pieces of artwork. If any one has any ideas it would be a great help.

Need a new page for each record in Xdata

I know this is something little that I am missing, but I am doing a merge for letters and can't get each letter with its variable data on its own page. The variable data is comprised of text and images. How do I indicate in the template that I need a new page for each record (row in a .csv file)? Currently, it is all running in one text box and I am getting an error message that says "Your imported text overflowed its text chain. Unless you're doing something special, check to make sure that you're importing into the main text flow."

This is driving me crazy! Please help!

XTensions Loading Error

I am very new to Quark Page Development. I used mostly Indesign for Pagination in the Advertisements dept. But now we got one proposal in Quark based. Can we do Advts. flow in Quark with use of Microsoft Visual basic or .net. We have used Quark in VC++. That is working fine after creating .xnt file. How we can do in Visual basic. DropShadow XT error?

I'm trying to open a recently saved file which contains drop shadows (applied from the DropShadow XT), and I'm getting an error message that the file can't be opened because the "Drop Shadow XTension module" is not loaded. When I check the XTensions manager, it shows an error next to the DropShadow XT. I've gotten a fresh copy of the XT from a colleague, and still it shows an error. The only way I've been able to open the file is if my colleague opens it first and deletes all the shadows. Does anyone have a fix? Thanks, Rodney

Xdata Import very slow

Hi, we do an import with xdata extension on quarkxpress v6.5 and work very well, but now we have installed quarkxpress v8.0 and work very slow. We think the problem is configuration problem, but can't find it. Both machines are running Windows Xp.

Expert Marks

Used ALAP,Inc.'s Xpert marks with version 6.5 then I upgraded to ver. 8.02 and can't use this extension anymore. Does any one know if there is an extension to place trim mark, registration marks, etc... ?

I have deleted & installed QXP 8 a few times recently because the application refused to quit and had to be forced to quit.

Luckily, I'm using a Macintosh so it does not affect the rest of the system.

I suspect that the problem is related to the recent installation of the excellent spell-checking XTension AutoCorrectXT 2.0 for QXP 8.

Post hoc, ergo propter hoc.

Any body else using this XTension ??

Does anyone know of a search and replace Xtension for ver 4.x Windows with some regular expression support. If not is there a market for one? We need to replace picture paths and modify names. PictureXTtracker does part of the job. I now version 4 is history but how many other users out there are stuck with old versions because their Xtension is no longer supported? Now i have a problem than i register a style but when i go to modifiy it, it not give me opetion of modify??

can someone help me how i can make new style to give my equation and give the correct font in wich i want to work.

XpressMath file bloat?

I have upgraded to Qk 7.5 and XPressMath 7.1 (this was included free with QK upgrade). I was previously working in QK 6.52 with XPressMath 6.52. I am finding the size of my files is growing exponentially when I copy an equation created in XPressMath 6.52 and paste into QK 7.5. I have read there is an issue with legacy file bloat in files created pre Qk 7. I addressed that issue by creating a new project and appending the layout. This seemed to fix the problem until I started importing XPressMath equations. My file started getting enormous as soon as I did this. A typical file that was created in QK 6.52 is 16.6 mb. The same file in QK 7.5 is 49.4 mb. The content is identical. And this size is after creating the new project and appending the layout. I can only deduce this is due to the XPressMath equations. Is there by chance a patch for this problem? If not has anybody else experienced this issue and if so is there a solution? Or is there some other issue that could be causing my files to get so large? Identifying missing extensions

Hi all,

This question may have been asked many times before, but how do I dentify missing Xtensions?

More specifically,I have been handed an existing project (book) by a designer who no longer works on it. When I open her documents, I get this error message: "This document was created with an Xtension module that is no longer avaialble. It maybe reflowed..."

Is there any way to find out what the exact Xtension is that is missing? I am using Quark 8.

How to write a hyphenation XTension?

Hello,

I have developed the hyhpenation patterns for TeX and OpenOffice for the Kurdish language. Now I want to give QuarkXPress users the possibility to use these hyphenation patterns, too. The way to do this is probably through an XTension.

I am not a QuarkXPress user myself, but I guess it is not too difficult to provide such a thing. Could someone point me to some resources that tell me how to write such an XTension?

As an alternative, I could provide the patterns to someone else who is into this XTension developing business anyway.

Xpert Tools Pro update

Anyone have any idea when an update for Xpert Tools Prowill be available for Q8.

Bought the Q8 upgrade when it first came out. But we can not switch to it until there is an upgrade to this extension. We use the features of this extension every day. I know a few of these have been built into Q8, but not the ones I use all the time. Please enlighten me if I am wrong about this...

Can't open because no pasteboard xt

Hi I have Quark Express Passport 7 for Windows and I can't open a file because I don't have pastboard xt. is there anyway i can get round this.

I have found a site called markzware but this only has kill pastboard xt for versions 6 and below.
