Empty file

I had a manual in version 6, and I recently upgraded to 8. When I tried to open the manual, I located the file, but it's empty when I open it. All the pages are gone, images, everything. File size is 1k. Where did it all go?

Quark unexpectedly quits

Yesterday Quark 6.5 worked fine on Mac OS 10.4.1 except if I tried to print as a PDF file more than once w/o closing Quark, when it crashed. Today every time I try to open a Quark doc I get the "Application unexpectedly quit" message before the doc comes up. I reinstalled Quark with no results. I would guess that there are some bad files somewhere that need to be deleted, but where do I find them? Any ideas on the cause of this?

Quark 6.5 will not start up

I have used quark for many years right from version 1... I have a full legal copy of 6.5 and I have tried everything to get the programme to start up fully, help I am running out of ideas.

MICR font in Quark 6.0

I'm having some issues with the symbols in the MICR font in Quark. I have MICR in both Open Type and Post Script, neither one will display the symbols (the on-us, the dash, etc.). I'm using Suitcase for font management. I had been running Quark 4/Suitcase previously and never had a problem (I was using the Post Script version at the time). I have not tried installing them as system fonts as of yet and they are working in other applications like Illustrator and Photoshop (which doesn't really do me any good). Has anybody else run across this problem?

QuarkExpress 4 cannot be used with this keyboard.

I have been using QuarkExpress 4 for years without any problem. I have now changed my computer and find that when opening QuarkExpress I get the mesage " This version of QuarkExpress cannot be used with this keyboard" I cannot plug in my old keyboard because the plug is different. What type of keyboard do I need? or is there a fix? O.S. Windows XP Professional. Tried it on my laptop Toshiba Satellite, same result.

Eps problems with Quark 4

Hi I've created a logo in Illustrator CS3 on a Mac, and a friend of mine is running Quark 4 on a PC. The problem is the .eps file loses its transparency when imported into a picture box in Quark 4 - it's either a white box or the grey message box. Theres a similar thread on this but the user states problems with Quark 5. Can anyone help please? I've tried re-saving in all sorts of formats but may well have missed some options! Many thanks

Sorry, I know I'm using an old version of Quark, but I have an urgent job to do. I'm on OSX 10.6.1 (no choice - new machine). It opens Quark 6.1 just fine and most functions seem to work, but I'm getting odd/serious anomalies on the display of text. Please can anyone tell me what Version of Quark would work correctly?

Hi there.

Our company still uses this acient version of Quark, but to be fair it does most things fine, tho we have this odd problem - When rotating a text box in a document. 9 times out of 10, when you then go to open it later on, it will just crash quark immediately.

This is on Windows XP.
I thought it might be a font problem, but we're using Adobe Type Collection so the fonts should be able to handle being rotated etc?

The only way to be able to get into one of these files with rotated text, is to open it on an old mac, make the offending box(es) "0 degrees" rotated, then it will open on our PC's again.

Any thoughts? Its very odd, but completely re-creatable every time!

QXpress 6.5 fonts

I am opening a doc. from the server and when opens the fonts are replaced automatically. Usually the computer ask to replace it for others. The fonts that are in the doc. are already installed. If I open a similar doc. with the same fonts it would be OK. The issue is in this particular doc.

I am working on an 80 page booklet in Quark Xpress 6.10 and it is a file that has been in existence for a couple of years, I always make revisions to it and save as a new name and continue on happily. I have put in about 10 hours of work on this latest version and everything seemed to be working well, and today when I went to open it I got this message:

"This project has been damaged and cannot be fixed. Try dragging pages into a new project to recover them." What the heck? Any ideas on what could have caused this? And how do I drag 80 pages into another project? :(

Export layout as PDF is missing

I'm using a share computer, we use Quark ver 6, The export layout as pdf (option) is missing in file menu and i'm getting export layout as html(option) and even that is grayed out.

How to get back export layout as pdf option in the file menu

I know that is not a supported option and I realize that is not the best solution and that I can have glitches and problems, but I wonder

1) If Xpress 6.52 runs on Mac Os 10.6 or crashes at star up

2) If it is usable for simple tasks and printing draft pages

XPress 6.5 Library Changed to "multiple language document"

My XPress 6.5 Library changed itself to a multiple language document and now says it will only open with Passport (which I don't have). I have had other 6.5 files decide they were multiple language documents all of a sudden and have been able to get around it but the library won't open at all. I have tossed my Preferences twice and it still won't open. Any workarounds? I hate to lose this library.

EPS files not showing up in QuarkXpress 5

We've just upgraded Illustrator to CS4, and now Illustrator .eps files are not showing up in QuarkXpress (5.0). I've tried saving to all of the legacy versions of Illustrator, and something is loading into the box in Quark, but it's just blank white space. Any ideas?

Pages shifting on layout in 6.5

We are having issues with random spreads (facing pages) shifting off to the side in the layout. Some times we can just grab them in the page layout menu and move them back. Other times that does not work and we have to copy the page content, delete the pages, create new pages and paste into the new pages. With the pages shifted off to the side, PDFs come out blank and so do the printed pages. Any ideas? Not a huge deal usually - but on deadline, the chance of something getting screwed up is greater... Quark 6.1 Mac OSX 10.4.11 - Tool Bar not visible after installation

When I install Quark, it says successfully installed and all the other palettes show up. A text box shows up that I can select and the measurements palette has numbers, but I don't see a tool bar even when I go to window - show tools. Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Help....6 to 4.1!!

Quark Xpress 7.31: scroll bars appear mid-screen, lock screen

More and more frequently now, usually while editing text, scroll bars appear in the middle of the screen (sometimes they're horizontal, sometimes vertical) and lock up Quark. Alt-Tabbing back & forth to other programs doesn't fix the problem, like it does with other wierd stuff Quark sometimes does. Only by zooming in or out using keyboard shortcuts am I able to make the scroll bars go away and resume editing. When this does start happening, it seems to keep happening repeatedly. Neither rebooting nor clearing preferences folders causes it to stop.

I have a screen capture of this as a jpeg, but it appears that this site only lets me insert images from a url.

Anyone have any ideas on how to make this stop?

I'm running Xpress 7.31 on Mac OS 10.4.11, aka "Tiger", I think, (why does mac confuse us with their "hip" nick-names?!). It's loaded with all the SDRAM cards it can hold and this doesn't act like an issue related to limited processing or memory.

QuarkXPress 4.1 - Problem Loading File

I'm trying to support a client still using QuarkXPress 4.1 but since the software was made when I was 12 and know next to nothing about it, I'm hoping the community can come to my aid.

Here is the problem:

When they try and open a file off a zip disk (or off the desktop). They recieve this error

Error:
QuarkXPress 4.1 could not be found. Could not find a translation extension with appropriate translators.

QuarkXPress4.1 is installed and runs. They are able to open other files, but they have a few that create this error consistently. There is nothing incommon with these files that I can tell, it seems completely random.

Any help or a point in the right direction would be greatly appricated.

Clipping path images obscured in pdf output

Using Quark 6.5, have imported photos from photoshop TIFFs with clipping paths. In the quark window in which I'm doing the layout, they appear just fine, but when I export to pdf, some, but not all of the clipped images show what looks like a dark mask over them. I've compared the ones that are working okay with the ones that are not and have not yet found any difference. I tried saving a page as an EPS file--the images in question show up okay on screen in that--but when I distilled with Adobe Acrobat distiller, I got the same weirdness. Tried pulling the eps into a new quark document and exporting as pdf from that and still had same result. Anyone have suggestions as to what the source of the problem and possible resolution might be? Thanks.

Is there a max dpi Quark 6 can import and preview?

Hello,

I am working on a desing for some roller banners. I am setting up the background graphic in photoshop at 450dpi and am importing it into the quark set up which is at 50% the actual size. Trouble is that quark won't show the graphic when imported and when exported as a pdf it is not visible. There is no warning on low memory. I beleive that the cache is great enough to cope. The graphic itself is around 500Mb. Is this a system problem or a software limitation?

I tried working down from the 450dpi in steps reducing the dpi of the graphic until it was down to 300dpi which does show up. I would like to give it that extra bit by having it at a higher dpi. Do I need to?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Editing spellcheck dictionaries in TextEdit corrupts them

Huh? I thought I was able to edit/add words to QXP dictionaries in TextEdit... but when I do, QXP (6.5) thinks they're damaged. Anyone else have this problem? Or an alternative application to TextEdit that won't "damage" dictionary files?

Quark 6.52 now opens then freezes

I am running Tiger, 10.4.11 and Quark 6.5.2. No problem until recently. The application opens fine, can work on a file, but once I move to another app or out of Quark then on return the clock keeps running and it freezes, Force Quit displays 'not responding'. I trashed the .plist preference; I set up new user and launched Quark from there without problem but would like to fix the problem and understand what is happening. Thanks in advance for advice. jw
