Interactive novice - item doesn't appear

I'm having my first stab at an interactive layout, though an experienced used of XPress. I've created a simple looped animated movement sliding a box along a line when the user press a 'play now' object. This works fine in Flash preview. However when I've created a 'please stop' box with an action to stop the animation, it does work in Flash preview, but the graphic/text box doesn't appear on the screen (and can be activated only because I know where it is .. and the cursor changes shape). Any clue as to what fundamental principle I've missed?? Grateful for any pointer. Judith

Problems with menu items

Hey everyone, I am struggling with a self-made menu on one of my websites: http://members.chello.nl/g.mulder15/trager/index.htm On the top we have the head menuitems, where there is 'Wat is Trager', Waar?Vind een practitoner'. etc. When for example do the mouse over at the 'Agenda' head menuitem, it shows the submenu items. Now we can go over the submenu items with no problem; when we exit the submenu item it disappears... All natural, also with the other menu items, except the first one called 'Wat is Trager'. When we enter the head menuitem 'Wat is Trager' it shows the submenuitem, but when we want to go to the submenu item, it disappears directly! What's the problem here....let me try to explain: The head menu items all have the mouse enter action show object. The objects are the sub menu items. Each submenu item is a group of the sub menu items + a borderline box + a white box to hide the other submenu's and the area in which the mouse has its space to walk around. This total group has one objectname as a group. Now, when each of the submenu items do have no action at all except the only action that the total group of submenuitems disappear on exit the area , it goes fine: the submenu as a total group appears on entering the headmenu and we can walk around the submenuitems and its white space. But the intention is of course to give also actions to each sub menu item as well. And here its where it goes wrong! Let me explain it with the first head menu item 'Wat is Trager'. It has as objectname TABwatistrager and only one event: on enter show object TABHEADwatistrager (the total subitemgroup). This TABHEADwatistrager group has the event on exit hide object TABHEADwatistrager. Sofar no problem. Now, when I make for example the first submenu item 'Waarom Trager?' as an object within the group with for example click down show object blue, or no action but a hyperlink on the text, it goes wrong. When entering the TABwatistrager it first should show The group TABHEADwatistrager, oke it does, but on entering it disappears directly. But there is no command on exit, only show and the event on the sub menuitem is click down and not exit (remember that all other items on the website are properly functioning as told before, but only when there are no actions or events on the seperate items) Everyone still understand what I am trying to explain??? I tried everything, but I could not find a solution on this matter, so who has a solution on this...???? Many thanks for listening, Mol

How do you make a loop of images to be inserted in a page

I am building a page and in the homepage I want to have a loop of pictures that start when you open the page, I have something like 10 pictures, I wonder if this is the right direction to go, I think I am doing a an interactive sequence at a frame rate of 15 fps and the dimensions are 562 X 456 pixels, any help would be appreciated, I have a print background so I am not familiar with some of the terms used for the interactive layouts, I know that this would be flash file that I would place into a an object box in my html site.

Problem with Wildform Flix

When I export the QID document as a swf file, I keep getting a message saying:

Wildform Flix Reporter: Error
The maximum bitrate specified for this input video is too low to produce with the current frame rate, audio bitrate, and video dimensions. Please reduce any of these options and try again.

If I make any of those settings lower, the resulting video looks terrible. How do I change the max specified bitrate? Is there an ideal video file type with ideal codec and an ideal size? I've tried many different combinations, but they all look terrible (distorted, pixelated, etc.).

how to make a "jump to page number" button

I know that it is an extremely elemental question, sorry, but I can not discover how to do it.

I´m trying to convert a classic-layout book made in quark to and e-book. I can put some navigation buttons ("nex page", "previous page", "index" and similar). But I can not make a "jump to page number" button. I have try a lot of things but I can´t.
The idea is a test box in every page in which the reader could enter the number of the book page he wants, an pres intro or a "go" button an the SWF jumps to that page.

can't export Windows projector file

I am using Mac Quark 7.31 and I can only export my ID layout as a Flash or Mac projector file. My client uses a PC and cant seem to view my .swf file exported as Flash. When I attempt to create the Windows projector file it looks as though it is exporting fine but no file is created. I have tried saving to a new empty folder on my desktop, with no spaces in the file name, with and without the .exe extension added when naming the file. Not sure what is happening. Any thoughts? Am I missing something?

Validation for my home license?

I'm on a PC in the office with 7.31 and QID was installed with the original full install.

On my license at home on a Mac, it wasn't installed, and I'm running 7.5. I downloaded it, but it won't take the validation code and I'm gettting the watermark. (It's also previews ridiculously slow on my G4, but that's another story.)

Shouldn't the license be valid for QID on Mac OS 7.5 if it's valid for the PC?

I'm afraid to hear the answer.

SWF files jump or flash white when loading

For the snow flake one, how do you get the flake to rotate? I haven't done a Sequence on a Path yet, only an Item on a Path, so maybe it's real easy.

One page, two animation objects on different paths.

Let's call one Red Ball (going vertical) and the other Blue Ball (going horizontal). Sounds simple enough, right? And no jokes about their names.

I want them to do the trip just twice, so for options, I select "None." So don't I just add two more of the same play animations actions to the same script? Or do I have to something with a delay for the second set of actions?

I feel like a total moron--or should I just add another page and do it as a two-page presentation layout?

Baby Steps--Can This Be done in QID?

1) Let's assume I just want an effect like a Sequence in a Box that loops, 5 images. I can adjust the speed of the sequence, but I can't figure out how to have each image fade into the frame, or for it to delay an extra second or two at the end of the last image, even if it's going to loop.

I guess for the delay, I just have to place the animation more than once in the script, right? But can I do the fade or any of the other effects that are available in presentation layout prefs?

2) If I do this as presentation layout instead, I can get my cool fades between pages--but no way to adjust the delay after the last image, right? I thought that maybe I could duplicate the last image, but it's just going to fade in twice then.

On a similar note, there's no way to select difference page transitions within the same layout, correct?

I know that many sites use sequences like this, and they only want it to repeat two or three times, so the thing isn't always changing images. My guess is that I have to do this an Animation Sequence In A Box, and add that animation more than once to the script, with a delay in-between.

Am I getting CLOSE to understanding this stuff? Or can everything above be easily accomplished via a script and I just have to be patient, little grasshopper?

I'm new to Interactive Designer, but not new to Quark. (Can anyone say 3.0?)

I have so far successfully avoided the world of web design, because it just never interested me. However, I'm going to develop my first site for myself soon which may generate a little money, and money DOES interest me.

I have a plan, but I wanted to run these 3 questions by you:

1) I can handle type and layout in Q blindfolded, so I would really like to create my site elements in Q , export them to the appropriate file format, and just plop them onto the HTML page. (GoLive for now, and no jokes please.)

If I choose a standard RGB for the background of the home page, for example, and use the same RGB background for my exported Q elements, am I guaranteed a match? Like, will the GoLive, Quark and Flash Player, let's say, all play nice together and give me the same color when viewed?

2) Anyone else here who sticks to the nice and comfy Q environment to develop web sites?

3) For an Action, and its cursor preferences, is there any way to add a customized cursor icon, something that will be available to me all the time?

Hi! Try this if you can. 1. Create a text box and name it "parent". 2. Create three other text boxes and name them child_1, child_2 and child_3 3. Cut and paste the three "children" into the parent as they where text objects. 4. Create a button and make it interactive in order to hide the parent. Result: When you click the button the parent disappear but the children remaines :(

Form Mail from Interactive Designer

I'm working on a site now that may require a form mail function. I have a form mailer CGI script that I use, and normally I'd just create a form in a Quark web layout. However, this form will have quite a few fields...too many to put on one page and still look good in my opinion. So I figure Interactive Designer is the way to go since there's more freedom as far as what's shown and what's hidden at a given time.

From a Quark SWF, is there a way to send the text from an editable text box to a CGI script like you can do from a simple web layout? I see there are functions for posting text and posting the contents of a page to a URL, but it doesn't seem to work the same way. Any tips?

Or, maybe I can skip the CGI altogether. Is there a way to send editable text directly to an email address?

Tip: Scroll element that scrolls to next element

Hi, all,

one of the participants of the forum has asked me to modify the scroll bar found here (http://forums.quark.com/p/16700/70411.aspx) to behave slightly differently:

Instead of scrolling as long as the mouse is over the arrows, it should only scroll one position and then stop.
(I added that you can also click on the arrow to make it scroll again, so that you do not need to move the mouse out and over again.)

Opening an FLV video in a new window

Hi I have created a simple multi-window player in QID7 for clients to view video clips (this is for internal review/sign off purposes, so it's very basic). What I'd like is to have the video open into a new, larger window when they click on the video object. I'm new to Flash, is there a simple way of doing this? Play, pause and cue/review buttons would be great but they're by no means essential. I've tried creating links to windows but without any success so far thanks Stephen

Quark Interactive Designer on Leopard

Dear all,

the next version of Mac OS X, version 10.5 (codenamed Leopard), is almost shipping.

During our testing we have noticed that Quark Interactive Designer 1.0 and 1.01 unfortunately do not export under MacOS X 10.5. Everything else such as authoring and previewing works as expected.

As exporting is such a key component of Interactive Designer, we recommend that you wait with upgrading to Mac OS X 10.5 if you use Quark Interactive Designer or at least keep an older installation as boot option.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused and are working full steam to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

Once we have a solution I will let you know immediately, I expect this to happen within the next 90 days.

Importing SWF not made in Quark

I have made a quick booklet in InDesign that I have exported as an SWF that uses the 'Page Curl' effect. I want to use this SWF in my Quark Interactive project, but I have trouble when I am exporting the project. The Imported page curl SWF does not play properly - it seems to play as if it is an image sequence rather than being a SWF that the user can interact with. ie. the page curl effect is gone and I get a continously looping image sequence. My question is really if an SWF has actionscript in it, does Quark ignore it? This appears to be what's happening. Thanks
