I'm happy to announce that I just posted the Print Selection XT for QuarkXPress 8.1 to the Quark Labs website. This free XTension for QuarkXPress 8.1 allows you to print, EPS, or PDF just a portion of a page rather than the whole thing. This XTension was previously known as the XPert Print component of XPert Tools. Head over to Quark Labs and check it out!

QuickLook Filter 2.0 for QXP 8 not working on Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard?

On my MacBook Pro, freshly upgraded to Mac OS X 10.6.1, the QuickLook Filter for QXP 8 is not working ... is it just me, or is this a known problem? (I haven't had this plugin installed under Mac OS X 10.5) brx

Strange change in quark document

In reviewing my back up I noticed 2 QuarkXPress documents open with unreadable type. Is there anything I can do to get them back to their original readable copy? ShadowCaster Problem

I've been using ShadowCaster for QuarkXPress 7.5. However, when I add a CMYK or RGB photo into ShadowCaster, the preview is always black and white. And when I place the new image, it too is black and white. This happens no matter what color mode I choose in ShadowCaster preferences. So, basically I've been using it for simple drop shadows, but can't use it to burn a shadow onto an image. I am using a Power PC Mac. I know there are some issues with ShadowCaster Multiply on these computers. Also, I wish ShadowCaster could be rewritten for XPress 8. I recently discovered that when I change the frame for a picture box to 1 point or greater, the preview is correct (CMYK). however, if the frame is less than 1 point, the preview is black and white.

Spotlight Filter 2.0

Spotlight is the file-searching technology built into Mac OS® X 10.4 and above. It works by indexing meta-data for the files on your computer and then searching that index based on whatever criteria you define.

Spotlight extracts the data for a file by using a filter that allows it to read the file's specific format. By default, Spotlight can read most common file types like HTML and PDF, but it requires filters to read most native application files like QuarkXPress projects.

Shadowcaster 3.3 glitch in dropshadow?

My company recently upgraded to Quark 7 after being on 6.5 for some time. We used Shadowcaster quite frequently. Today, I was notified of the new version for Quark 7 so I figured I'd give it a try.

Well, the results are mixed. I haven't tried everything yet, but so far, I've encountered one killer glitch. When activating a drop shadow on an object that overlaps a non-white object beneath it, there is a funky graphical anomaly that appears. Hard to describe it but it's like a series of tightly packed, thin white lines appear where the shadow would otherwise be. It's edge is very blocky - almost looks like a video type of glitch.

If the shadow falls on open area or a white box, the shadow displays correctly. Any other background and the blockiness shows up. It appears in both the preview window AND in the actual hi-res file that is built.

As a test, I installed on another system running Quark 7 with identical results. The other "effects" seem to work just fine. I had no trouble with "bevels" or glows. Obviously, this glitch makes the rendered image unusable if I need the dropshadow functionality.

Can anyone offer assistance on something else to try, or is this perhaps a bug in the Xtension? Thanks.

Quicklook feature disabled ?

Hi Guys,
congratulation for the genius quicklook-feature for Quark 7. After using (and loving...) it for several days, the feature seems to be disabled now. The "plug" is in the system, right. Location o.k. - but quicklook shows the the quark icon only .-(
Im i running a leopard (10.5.1 german) power Mac G5, 7.3.1 Xpress (of course!) with very much of free disk and ram space ....
Any suggestions.

Testing Xtensions

Can I safely install these Xtensions, use them when I work on my projects, remove these Xtensions and still be able to open my projects and continue working on them without these Xtensions installed?

I am asking this because I know there have been examples, people testing Xtensions, decided not to have them installed or not wanted to buy them only to find out that these projects no longer are accessible or non-editable without the Xtension they tested

Nice to know before I start using any of these on some customer files.

installed drag drop image but Quark crashes(instantlly) when I try to drop any kind of image onto an open document
have an intel mac 5 gigs ram quark 7.31
note: if i disable all extensions except this it takes a little longer to crash
Any ideas?
