Just a question: have you unchecked Multiply opacity?
-
When you say random letters, do you mean sometimes some letters are missing then some other times other letters?
Does this happen with any font? Some fonts only? If only some fonts, is it with any kind of fonts (OpenType, Type1, TrueType Mac, TrueType PC) ?
A great difference between Quark 6 and Quark 8 (since 7 actually) is now Quark supports ...

Hi Barbara,
First of all I would suggest you to update to 7.5. I don't wether this would fix that but it's always better to work with the last updated version of a software.
HTH.
Also could you give further information on how you generate the PDF file?

Hi Matthias,
I'm sorry about my outdated information. It's true that I myself encountered that issue back in v6 when I had a non-PS printer. I was just thinking it was sth "unfixable". Fortunately you're reading us…
-
Because your printer device does not "understand" PostScript language. It's that simple. A PDF somehow has interpreted it. Thus generating a PDF is the only workaround to print a QuarkXPress document on a non-PostScript printer.
-
My bet is your printer is not a Post Script printer so to what I know you have no other way than generating a PDF and print it.
-
Hum! This is the typical sign you have to relaunch both Quark and Script Editor (or whatever editor you use).
-
Another very helpful trick is to use AppleScript if you're on a Mac. Someone here -I always forget his name! Shame on me!- posted his code some years back. And thanks to it, I just pick a colour in Photoshop and Ctrl-C and the colour is created in Quark.
Let us know if ever you're intersted in that script.
EDIT: Of course this is still ...
-
Don't know if you know this, but you can somehow pick colour from a picture in Quark. Though it won't create it from picking. And it's not as simple as using a Pipette tool. Read more at http://support.quark.com/knowledgebase/ViewKBArticle.aspx?kbarticleid=0c1d00bb-118d-de11-9660-00155d642a02. HTH.
