I don't know enough about post script commands to give some detailed advice but "bad FontBBox" sounds like defective fonts are used in this document.

I would analyze which kind of tiff files are responsible for this problem. If you recieve third party files from different companies it is always a good idea to resave the files. I made some PS scripts for automatic resaving files from third parties. There are a lot of options available when you save tiff in Photoshop. Eg. compression types, ...

You can select File > Save Text for selected text boxes. Use Badia Exporttools for exporting multiple pages as text (www.badiasoftware.com).

Press shift prior to selecting a font and the font previews are disabled. Or go to Preferences > Fonts and deselect the automatic preview. If you see the picture handles press V and the box became active. If the box is active double click on it and the content gets active. Regards

Did you try to delelete/remove all full res previews. I learned that only one full res preview in a 7 document can create huge delays while working. Avoid TIFF files. Use PS EPS with embedded 8 bit preview. This shoud help also. Let me know…

Did you try thumbnail dragging?

I think they adapt 8.1 to Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and release it in sync.
