Have you trie clearing the font cache? 

Check to see that the user doesn't have any duplicate fonts in different formats (eg TrueType/Type1 or Type1/dfont). Also clear the system font cache using a utility such as FontNuke.

 How do they work on other apps?  Have you cleared your font cache recently? Malcolm 

 If you have TrueType format then the suitcase may only reference the Regular weight. The Italic, Bold and BoldItalic may only be availble via the style buttons. The ExtraBold would have a seperate reference. Adobe does not use the same font handling system as Quark so all CS apps will display fonts slightly differently. You could also check ...

 Changing from 10c to 4c is quite something. Was that defined columns or just tabbed?  Have you tried clearing the system font cache and getting your client to do the same?  Could you be using different versions of the same fonts - eg client has dfont version and you have Type1?   Malcolm 

There is probably an error in the cmap of the font or they have messed about with character/glyph names that now causes a problem in this version of Quark XPress. As you are updating a 6.52 job in OS/X, using a TrueType, dFont (which is a TrueType format) or OpenType font of Zapf Dingbats will not work.OS/X relies on the Unicode tables in the TrueType font, and ZDings has a very unique Unicode table. This kind of strange behavior is often caused by a messed up system font cache. Have you tried resetting the font cache?malcolm
