Version 8 of QXP has a command in the Utilities menu to Convert Project Language, which converts all Style Sheets and Text Runs to the language chosen from the drop-down menu. Ask them to do that before exporting back to 7 (and 7 to 6).

Used to be there was free tech support on the phone. I thought it was good. The people there helped me with a couple of problems over the years. I looked for that number recently and couldn't find it, just one that cost money (per issue). Do I fail at site search? Or is the free phone tech support finished? 

The changes to the Item Style spec is always to the color. I wonder whether the color names are a problem? The projects I'm working with have names where the colors are grouped into similar hues and called e.g., "R4:10c100m60y" which is a red with those CMYK values. You think that colon could be the cause of the trouble?

Start out with just three styles: Picture frame; Figure frame; Caption frame After a while I notice there are many in the palette:  Picture frame; Picture frame 1; Picture frame 2; Picture frame 3; Figure frame; Figure frame 1;  ... etc.  Touch an item which is governed by one of the new item styles. Name in palette shows ...

Similar here. What I did was make a new regular empty folder in User: Documents. Name that new folder folderforhirezpreviewscachequark (whatever). Then back to the Preferences: Full Res Preview : select Other Folder, browse to the new folder. Select it. Done.

Maybe find a local printer or professional designer who has been in business a good long time, someone who has experience resurrecting valuable old files. Bring them a copy of everything they might need. This may not be the most opportune time for bricolage.

Fine. Sounds like you're going to have to spin off that moneylosing subsidiary. Refrigerator magnet catalogs for eskimos didn't work out despite your best efforts. Time to move on.
