  • Re: Snow leopard OS 10.6 Certified date?

I have just installed Snow Leopard on a MacBook Pro 2.4GHz with 4GB ram, and 8.1 has crashed several times on start up.  It may not be a Quark problem but I have logged it with Quark at the moment.   I did try reinstalling Quark but to no avail.   It might be worth delaying an install of Snow Leopard until such times as we ...

  • Re: The Application ProfileAgent Quit Unexpectedly

Oh dear, Ted. I think we've all been down this path at sometime in our lives and I would say firstly, that your G4 with just 1 GB ram isn't up to the job by today's standards. On a personal note, I've never been very successful with any of the Font Management systems and even today on a "state of the art" Mac, I still ...

  • Re: As is setting in Qx8

Hopefully you might have Adobe Pro on your system whereby you can look at your pdf to ensure you have four individual colour separations. I don't generally use native Illustrator files but assuming their 100% black you shouldn't have any problems. You could import your black logo.ai into Photoshop to make sure it's black but assuming ...

Are you using a Mac or PC? What version of Mac OSX If so and what model?

  • Re: Wrong printing output

I think a lot depends on what type of printer you're using. If you're using a mono laser then this is wjhat you'll get because in Quark you're printing from a pdf and for some unexplainable reason you'll get variations. However, on a bespoke multi-ink printer, once set up correctly, you'll get a better print from the ...

  • Re: text box overflow

You need to produce a new text box using the same tool you developed the first one with. The little box you referred to means that there's more text in your first box which needs to flow to the second box so what you must do is to link the fist box to the new one I've just explained. Using the long slim vertical palette, click the link ...

  • Re: Word into Quark; maintain Word styles, ignore Word stylesheets in favor of Quark Xpress tags

Sadly you're not alone. We have this problem all of the time and there's no cure other than reformat the document once imported. Yes, it would be brilliant to import an MS Word file and for it to appear as it was in Word but it ain't gonna happen. I don't actually feel this is a Quark issue because it's also driven us around ...

  • Re: Kernal Panics on MacBook with 7.3.1

Thanks for that! I've got so much on I didn't realise that Quark had upgraded to 7.5. I'll give it a whirl and see what happens. I've had my MacBook live all day at home with no crashes (and no usage either) so I'm still trying to see what's causing the problems. I did take out the Crucial ram chips and cleaned the ...

  • Kernal Panics on MacBook with 7.3.1

This is an odd request but I've been having daily kernal panics on a MacBook - Intel 2,2 with 4Gb ram. I'm trying to eliminate the issues that might make the Mac crash and been keeping my own daily log. It seems after two weeks that when it crashes, I'm using 7.3.1. It may not be Xpress, and I sincerely hope not, as I use it 24/7, ...

  • 8.1 Behaving Badly

This note is really for Quark Engineers only as I installed a 60-day version last week and been experiencing horrendus issues with it this morning.   I've been working on a simple 8pp two-colour newsletter and having placed standard copy in several places, I firstly made a remote Firewire H/D as backup, then saved and closed down. ...
