o.k. 18 months. point being; known issue. serious issue. Missed in the last maintence update, promised to be in the next (I have the email to back up that statement). And now the answer is: Buy the updated software. Nice business model.

This issue has known to Quark tech for YEARS, literally. It was left out of the 7.5 update and was scheduled for a maintenance release that never happened. So the fix is to get a pay upgrade? Nice. You guys realize that ID comes with CS suite and is still gaining ground right?

If you're in a production environment, you're setting yourself up for disaster. There are several issues related with jumping between versions. Text reflow being a major one. You spec out your spot (and other colors) under the Edit -> Colors. Load the correct color library ...

Meta,
You can Suppress the images in the Image Useage dialog box. Spec your PMS Spot colors as you ordinarily would. Export as a PDFx1a (unless they have specified another format). This should give you what you want. Go ahead and update to Quark 7.5 (if you haven't already).

What version of Quark? This sounds like an issue that was addressed with the 7.5 update.
-
7.5 also resolves some long standing font handing issues.....

No. 8 doesn't do imposition, but Quark has an (Xpert Print) xtension for version 7 that will let you do it. It looks like the old Imposition Lite xtension (if you've been around a while it was out in the mid-ninties).
I would imagine they'll update it. It's useful for small shops, but not much ...
