Quark CUPS Filter - Leopard Compatibility

Quark has discovered that the current CUPS installer is not compatible with Mac OS X Leopard. To resolve this issue Quark is working on a new installer for the CUPS filter that will be made available as soon as it has been successfully tested and approved. To note, printing to the Adobe PDF Printer can not be guaranteed until a Leopard-compatible version is available from Adobe. We expect the new Quark CUPS installer to be available this month.

Any update on this issue? "This" month (and the one after it) has past.

This appears to be fixed by the 10.5.2 update? I tried it this morning and it looks like it's working. 10.5.2 is the only thing that I can think of that has changed. Any word from Quark???

Quark CUPS Filter - Leopard Compatibility

    MacPro 2 x 2,8 Quadcore, Mac OS X 10.5.2, QXP 7.3.1:

When trying to write a PDF with the "Adobe PDF 8.0" driver no PDF file will be produced.

It is written into the nirwana.

Chosen printer "Adobe PDF 8.0", chosen PPD "Adobe PDF 8.0".

The strange thin is, that I can give the PDF file a name but it will be overwritten from Quark with "filename:layoutname" - an as I remember with QXP 6.5 and Adobe PDF 7.0 on OS X 10.4.x there was the problem, that the Adobe PDF writer won't produce a PDF, when a ":" is in the filename!

    That must be solved immediately.

Inadvertently posted this in the PDF section, so now I'll post it here:

So the sales rep at Quark suggested I try the evaluation copy of 7.3 to see if I wanted to upgrade from 6.5. Love the interface but I can't print--at all. I have a Canon IR3220 with the latest drivers and an (admittedly old) HP 4MV LaserJet--can't print to either of them from 7.3; they work fine with every other software package. If I can't print, obviously, I'm not upgrading. I tried to install the CUPS upgrade, but as Dave indicated, it doesn't work with Leopard. This may be the shortest evaluation I've ever done if I can't print--I'll remove the software today.

    Any suggestions?

Nevermind... I don't know what I did but something changed and it's working now. I'd rebooted before I posted, then tried to print again but nothing happened. Now, before I left the office, I thought I'd try it again. Printed. Go figure... dumb computer or dumb user?

Quark CUPS Filter - Leopard Compatibility

    Hi there,

Update: I found out, that I have the CUPS problem, too - when I chmod 755 the folder /private/var/spool/cups PDF files will be produced with Adobe PDF 8.0.

But to change the CUPS folder permissions every day via the terminal is like in the stoneage ;-)

Hope, that this will be fixed VERY soon ...

    Regards,

    Josch

That's how it was fixed before Quark got on the case. At least we know the "old" trick still works.

    Thanks for the heads up

Quark CUPS Filter - Leopard Compatibility

Quark - this is now getting shameful. And considering all the help some of us offered up getting the Quark CUPS filter to work in the first place - and then the "hang 'em out to dry" attitude that followed - I'm looking to take my business elsewhere in the future.

So much for the "new, open, customer-friendly quark."

I - an end user - ended up staffing your main booth at the Montreal Quark symposium for about an hour last year.

I can see that hings are looking up.

    Hello

I hope behind this link is the new Quark Cups Filter.
    http://www.quark.com/service/desktop/downloads/details.jsp?idx=714

    ####
The Quark® CUPS Filter fixes a problem that prevented users from creating a PDF by printing to the Adobe® PDF Printer as well as printing to some PostScript printers from QuarkXPress on Mac® OS. Version 1.01 adds support for Mac OS X 10.5.2 and Adobe Acrobat 8.1.2. If you have already installed version 1.0 on Mac OS X 10.4, there is no need for you to download and install this update.

And we didn't get an update saying it was finally fixed because?

Forgive my kurt manner but for a company that's trying to shed the image-of-old there's work to be done. I know Apple is incredibly difficult to deal with considering all the changes that go into each OS revision that aren't identified to the devs, but still... this did take a while. A note could have helped those of us who continue to be dependent on this particular workflow.

To Quark's credit, at least the message board isn't being censored.
