I was just working away in Quark 7.01 and checking the tabbing of my document by viewing my invisibles, when i receive the message "Invisibles cannot be shown. Install the Quark hidden font and Show Invisibles again".
I've switched no fonts Off and have no idea what the font is call to fix it! :?.

Anybody know???

At the following location should be the "QuarkInvisibles.ttf" font:

"/Applications/QuarkXPress 7.0/Required Components/Fonts/QuarkInvisibles.ttf"

The first time you attempt to view invisible items in your layout, Quark activates that font (in the local context, kATSFontContextLocal, meaning the font is available only to Quark, and not to any other applications) and uses it to display the "invisible glyphs", such as paragraph and tab markers, etc. Without it in place you'll likely get that error message.

I had the exact same problem pop up yesterday. I cam i expecting to try to figure the problem out, but the problem apparently went away. !?!

I've been having this problems with my Quark 7. I've loaded the invisibles font and it still will not work. Any other suggestions?

Ive been having the same problem with the invisibles. I've checked to see if the font is located where it is suppose to be and it is. For some reason it does not want to work. Could anyone help???? Please!~

We've looked at this isue and it seems that clearing the font cache solves the problem. FontNuke is a good little application that will do just that for you: http://www.jamapi.com/

In Quark 7 the Jaws folder has moved. It holds the font links.

With Quark 7 closed. I delete the fonts in the following folder, except the file named_edir_

User/user name/Library/Preferences/Quark/Quark 7/Jaws/FontStubs/WesternFonts.

When you restart Quark it will load all of your currently install fonts back into this folder.

I noticed the OP mentions v7.01 - I'd highly recommend getting away from that abortion of a version. 7.1 (or 7.2, not used 7.3 myself as yet) are huge improvements over .01

I have tried all of these and still can't get it to work. Has anyone else had another solution? (I'm on Quark 7.3 with Linotype FontXplorer. Suitcase Fusion caused too many crashes for me.)

Hi Lisa,

Have you tried deleting the font cache folder?
Also LFE features a clean application cache allowing to clean Quark's. Just mind Quark's off.

I'm not sure what is going on here, but we sure are having difficulty reproducing the issue in house. As stated earlier, we are under the impression that it has something to do with font cache, but cleaning the font cache does not seem to help some of you. So, what happens when you try loading the font from a system location? Some steps are below:

1. Disable all Font Manager Tools.

2. Remove the QuarkInvisibles.ttf font from Required Components->Fonts folder, and move it into your User Directory->Library->Fonts folder.

3. Remove all files in /Library/Caches/com.apple.ATS, restart OS X.

4. Open Application->Font Book, in Font Book window, go to Collection->User, check if “Quark Invisibles” is listed in User fonts or not. If it’s not available, the font could be corrupt, copy it from QuarkXPress CD-Rom again.

5. If “Quark Invisibles” is listed in User fonts in step 4, launch QuarkXPress 7.x, check if Invisibles is working correctly or not.

6. If it’s working, put the QuarkInvisibles.ttf font back to its original place and try to use Invisibles in QuarkXPress again.

Report back with the results in step 5 and 6 and let us know if any of this helped at all.

Thanks Scott. I've suspected that the font had become corrupt for a while. Is there any way to reinstall just the font without having to go back to 7.2 and then 7.3 since it takes so long to reinstall back to 7.3?

 I have that installed as above.  BUT, it does not work.  How come?

 

I cannot SHOW INVISIBLES (command+I) !!!

Disable FontExplorerAutoloader.app (System preferences - Accounts (your account) - Login Items), and your problem will be solved. Vanja
