Suitcase 10 and Quark 6.1 - Fonts do not Auto-activate

    Hello,

I have a MAC OS 10.2.8 machine running QuarkXpress 6.1 and Suitcase 10 and for some reason my fonts are not auto-activating. When I open a document that has a font in suitcase but is not already activated I get the message:

"[DOCUMENT NAME] uses fonts that are not installed on your system"

Any ideas on why the fonts are not auto-activating? Smile

    Thanks very much!

My answer is not a happy one -- Suitcase X1 DID NOT WORK for me. For me, every time I tried to auto-activate fonts, Quark would unexpectedly quit.

Extensis tech support was pretty good about responding (though their ideas did not solve my problem) so you might try e-mailing them.

Personally, I never liked auto-activation. I turn this option off.

Nowadays, we have fast computers with lots of RAM; why not leave those fonts activated permanently; and if you find that some of them you rarely use, then turn them off.

Are you running Suitcase X1 or the ungrade to 11.0.2?

I myself do not care for Auto activation but the client I am troubleshooting this problem for has thousands of fonts and doesn't want them all running at the same time.

I am running Suitcase 10 (or X as its written in the about box of Suitcase).

From what I have read online there are many others with this same problem. Unfortunately I also have users running the same OS and suitcase version that auto-activation doesn't work in Illustrator 10 as well.

Wondering if I should try a different font manager or upgrade to the newest version of Suitcase.

Has anyone gotten this to work successfully with Suitcase 10 and Quark 6.1?

    Thanks!!

I'm not talking about leaving thousands of fonts ON; that would be an insane thing to do. I'm talking about leaving let's say 50 or so fonts ON all the time (the ones you use on a regular basis).

I agree with you, I am not suggesting that thousands of font are on, but my situation requires a lot of different fonts to be available. The client will unfortunately not accept even one prompt requesting an additional font.

They dig into old documents quite frequently and there isn't a common list of fonts that they use. Makes it kinda difficult huh? :D

Yes, in that case, I can see that auto-activation needs to be used, and be working well.
