    Translation Error on image boxes-Help!

After importing images and working on a Quark 7.2 layout for a few days, sometimes pix boxes appear gray with the words "Translation Error".
Happens with tiffs & jpgs, rgb & cmyk. To fix, I must find out which image it is, then search & reimport it! Increases productivity time and missed deadlines. Never happened in any prior version of Quark, and I've used them all. iMAC OS Tiger 10.4.9. Quark 7.2. Photoshop CS3.
    Thank you!

This Quark problem bug was never resolved. I did get some vague email about this, but their tip did not work. I'm still having problems. Let me know if you find out anything. It really hurts my production time, and is a big problem when I send my files to our print vendors.

This problem seems to have something to do system memory, as it appears to happen with me when my file gets to a certain size. Whatever the reason for happening, first off, be aware that the "translation error" only pertains to the preview image you see on the screen, not the image itself. So, if you were to print the page or make a pdf, the image would appear normally.

Aside from reimporting the image, you can fix this by refreshing the preview image. There are a couple of ways of doing this, including changing the specific image preview from low res to high res preview (or vice versa). If you can't do this (for instance, it is a low res image and Quark won't allow a high res setting), then under View you can change the Proof Output settings to something else, and Quark will go through the whole document updating preview images (this can take a while though, so only do this if you really have to).

    Hope this helps.

Coglio: Thank you for responding! Great! I'll try your workarounds on my future "translation errors". Unfortunately though, the Print vendors we use do not want to do all that. They want Press-Ready Quark files, and won't run jobs with error boxes. But, I'll definitely use your great advice on my end though. Thanks again! LK

I can do that on the pictures but not with the text/fonts. Any suggestions.

Poppy, Maybe you could write Quark and ask them what to do. I did that, but their response to me was vague. Maybe they'll pay attention after they receive some more Translation Error compaints. Thanks, and let me know if you get anywhere with them.
