    Friends and Fans...

Any benefit in marking people as FRIENDS or having them as FANS?

    Just wondering...

    Re: Friends and Fans...

OK, I got that, but what is the point?

Am I getting a notification everytime one of my "friends" post something?

Am I being told that my "friends" are online?

Am I publishing more information (otherwise hidden) to my "friends"

I mean, this information is available ONLY if you access someone's profile (which is not that often in my case) and then the only thing it provides is the fact that you are friends with such and such.

If this tool is to put a "value" on each other contribution to these boards than it is missing the mark totally.

I get the feeling that there is more to it than that and it has been disbaled by the admin of this forum...

The only thing I could think this useful-ish is its slightly quicker to access your friends by your own profile to send email, pm or open web page…

I agree, but then what is the purpose of sharing that info with others?

Michel, I guess it's all a purpose of popularity: the more friends -or rather fans- you have the more popular you are (supposed to be).

Sorry Jean-Marie, I don't don't buy into this. This information is hidden, so to speak, into eache user's profile. so you would have to go through each of them to find whose more popular? I, for one, do not have that kind of free time.

I can't see how it would be easier to access "friends" conatct informatiion by building a "contact list" but I still cannot see a reason to make this public. I mean if I cannot remember your name in order to do a search on it, what makes you think I will remember who you are friends with?

No this feature was an answer to something that currently eludes me. Wether it is because we are not the type of community this is intended for  or that something it works with got disabled here.

Don't be sorry for that! Smile I guess it's just in case you want to check the reliability of an answer Confused

Oh I see, so if I had you as a friend and post replies to countless number of threads, people will be able to "validate" the veracity of my answers simply by seeing that I have such a stand up guy listed as my friend.

Oh but wait, this is a double edged sword!!! Not so long ago they (Quark) did not even welcome you Belgiumites to these forums... What will my readers think of that? Stick out tongue

P.S. Are you telling me you are on Facebook as well?

No, that's not what I'm saying! Is my accent that strong? Big Smile

But, yes I am on FaceBook "as well". Man! It makes like 1 week or so. I already have friends and I still have uploaded nothing... Internet is so stange sometimes Confused  For instance, I  recently discovered that I am most probably working at Quark's (a US site where they deduce your job from the web pages you are on... I'll try to find it back, it's so... funny).

EDIT: Here it is. It is on zoominfo. Party!!!DrinksStick out tongue (Hum! zoominfo is actually clickable despite it is all black and not underlined.)
