    invisible text

I keep finding text boxes in my documents which contain invisble text. It seems like these are from master pages: I haven't noticed it so far in non-master-page items.

Boxes from a master page which have text in them just display as if they're completely empty. If I didn't know there was text there I'd never suspect anything was there at all. The master page itself looks fine (the text shows up like it's supposed to), but any page applied from it has apparently (but not really) empty boxes. There aren't any runaround problems. No overset boxes appear, and there's nothing on the top of or near the boxes to cause a runaround issue. Forcing a screen re-draw doesn't make it appear. Increasing or decreasing the size of the box doesn't make it appear. Even typing into the boxes doesn't work... any new text is also invisible. The only thing I've found that makes it show up is to move the box, then return it to the original position.

What is going on here? Has anyone else run into this? Is there a fix?

Wild guess. Maybe the documents that are doing this had synchronized text? Text box on non-visible layer? What happens if you change the color of the type? What is the type saying once you have it visible?

Nope, none of that. Changing color doesn't make it show up, either. Just moving the actual box around... I can drag it, nudge, it send it forward or backward... any movement applied to the text box makes the text inside appear.

I'm not sure what you mean by "what is it saying." It's just the text that's supposed to be in the box, the text I know is supposed to be there, but is invisible. Any text on the master page, which shows up on the master page itself, but not in the document when I apply the master page.

If you don't know about this one, I'm guessing it's a pretty unusual problem.

OK. That is kind of strange. I made the assumption that this was text that you had not at some point physically placed on the MP. I was thinking it was something that had just popped up that had not been there before.

Does it do this if you delete the text box, and then create a new one with your text and then place it where it is supposed to be?

I'm thinking corrupt text box, but it's just a guess.

BTW, thanks for the vote of confidence. Big Smile

I think the problem is you have an overlapping box. Try the select the frontmost text box on your page and Apple-K (or delete). The text box with the text shall then appear.

    Let us know.

It's probably text boxes that are on a layer that's turned off.

I've had weird things happening with Layers, like text boxes that are on a turned off layer would show in a printout.

I've had this same thing happen to me a lot. Can't quite figure out the pattern though. Anyway, for me, it seems to be a layering problem. If I bring the text box to the front (F5), the text will appear.

Do you have a Runaround for the text box that was on top?

Even if the Runaround is set to "0", it will hide what's underneath – it should be set to "none"
