    Upgrading from 6.0

I had an older Mac at work but it fried about 3 weeks ago. It was replaced with a new Mac Mini OS 10.5. I had Quark 6.0 on the previous Mac and have reinstalled it on the new Mac. I had a number of issues with Quark on the old computer but I attributed it to the "old Mac" not Quark. So I was hoping that once I got everything reinstalled that my Quark problems would be over.........

Now I understand that I need to upgrade to 6.52 to get rid of the previous issues I had, but that 6.52 is not compatable with Mac OS 10.5.

Does it cost to upgrade to 7.? version.

Also, I am in need of the Ellington font and Garamond to use in Quark. Can someone tell me where I can get/purchase these so they will work with Quark?

Oh by the way......yes I am new to Quark.

    Thanks for any help

6.52 will work, after a fashion, in OS 10.5 but you're right, it's not entirely compatible. 7.31 is and yes, it costs to upgrade, have a look at the Quarkstore link from the Products menu at the top of this page.

There are lots of places you can buy fonts online - I favour faces.co.uk - but do a Google search for font providers and you'll find loads, prices vary a little. I'd also recommend, if you don't have one, a proper font management utility - Apple's Font Book is rubbish and not meant for 'professional' use. Linotype's Font Explorer is good and free, other options are Font Agent Pro, Suitcase, etc.

    Good luck,

    Greg

    Re: Upgrading from 6.0

I am in a pickle too. I just bought a cool new iMac (OSX 10.5.4) for home and I cannot get my Quark 6.1 to load (I was gonna upgrade it to 6.5, then install all my third party extensions so I could work at home). Grrrrr. Anybody know if Quark will be trying to do a fix for us 6.x users. I have more invested in my third party items than in an upgrade. Besides, I'd hate to get a more advanced program than at work and have problems taking a file to work and using 6.x. Any advice will be much appreciated. (They are thinking about moving everything to InDesign at work and I don't want to leave the Quark environment.) Thanks to all for any feedback. dean

OKay... it's been a long night, BUT, I figured out the key to getting Quark 6.5 to work on the new Leopard (OSX 10.5.4). My only remaining issues are now with small matters like getting third party plug-ins to operate in other than "demo" mode and a few wierd font issues, like all my Zapf Dingbats not showing up. I think those are font issue that I can address as time permits. Not sure if it's okay to tell here or not, but I was able to drag and drop my legally owned 6.5 Quark Folder onto an external hard drive, then drag and drop the folder into my machine's "Applications" folder. The program seems to be working, while I have not had a chance to really work it hard to see if there are any bugs. The program does prompt you to authorize the copy of Quark, but providing you are being honest about owning the program, it seems to allow the program to become fully functional. (I may be crying in 30 days if the thing tells me it was only in demo mode, so stay tuned.) I do hope Quark is working on a patch to allow loyal 6.5 fans to stay with Quark. Too many folks are migrating over to InDesign and I want to stay with Quark until I retire!!!
