If you CTRL click on the image and choose Full Resolution for Preview Resolution, that will make the EPS files display much clearer.
charlieartist:This is set by default to preview placed artwork in low-resolution mode. InDesign is also set this way, and looks pretty much identical layout-for-layout with Quark (and just had an editor ask why an Illustrator EPS was displaying ragged in ID). I do a lot of magazine design--if all of my placed EPS and TIFF artwork in spreads were rendering in high-resolution for screen display, response would be quite sluggish, even on a fast computer with plenty of memory. As in InDesign, you can set preview resolution. This has been available in Quark since version 6. Hope this helps!
davewalsh:It's in the preferences under 'EPS' - change the virtual memory to 1024
Adobe, inventor of EPS, says, don't use it anymore. Duh.
Indesign having lots of issues with EPS. Adobe tech: use PDF instead.
Stop using it. Use AI, PDF, PSD, TIFF, JPG.

James Bowtine:AI, EPS and PDF all look equally as horrific when imported into Quark (any version)
