I definitely have plenty of free disk space. Also, I'd already tried your
suggestion of making a new book. Same result. Just for grins I tried installing
Quark on XP (which it is not listed as being compatible) and an older Win98SE
machine (which Quark 4.1 *should* run on). Both instances also crash
instantly! They won't even allow creation of a simple document -- the
application never runs.
One thing I may be doing a little differently: I enter my name and Validation
Code during installation, then repeatedly hit "enter" to get through the
rest of the registration process to avoid adding any more info. The S/W
is obviously not supported any more. I'll try going back and re-installing
on 2000 (which is the only OS that seems to work even halfway) with
"real" info and see what happens.
I'm wondering if I might have a bad distribution. It's very possible this
particular copy had never been installed anywhere until I tried it.
I'll try making some more books with just one chapter, etc., and
other variations to see if I can narrow down whether it's one of my
sample chapters causing the problem, or an inability to open the
book format itself. Seems to be no problem with the individual
chapters.
*******Does anyone recall if Quark came out with any specific
bug fixes for 4.1? That may be my problem.
