When i open and save XPress 7.3 Documents in 8 i get an annoing message that i should edit Non Breaking Character Sets. It shows me this dialog when saving. It gives me the option to duplicate, edit and save. Listed are Japanese an Chinese sets. Everything i do, the message reappears. Any suggestions? Regards Don't know how to post screenshots

Hi. Could you kindly give some informatin rgd as to what is contained in the XPress 7.3 docs. In whcih configutaion and program language were the 7.3 documents created? Which configuration of XPress 8 are you using and what is the system language? Is it a cross platform document?

    Hi!

7.3 document is a magazine, 24 pages, some pictures, mostly text. It was created on a german Win XP System with passport version of Xpress 7. Version 8 of Xpress i'm using is the Plus Version on exactly the same german WinXP system. No cross platform document!

    Best regards

Hi. Was the 7.3 document created using a Job Jacket xml file? If so, what all resources does the Job Jacket file contain? Any custom style sheets, H&Js, etc?

This started suddenly started happening to me - although it was when I went to "print" a job. I realised I'd turned on the "Auto Page Insertion - End of Section" in the "general" "default print layout" preferences for a particular job (I never use this function). I turned this to "off" and it stopped happening. Not sure if this helps you or not.

Same thing has just happened to me. The window appears on hitting Save. I have been working with QuarkXpress 7 and 6 files for 6 weeks now and this has suddenly appeared. It is happening with all 6 & 7 files. I open the original and then save in Quark 8 from then on every time I chose Save the window appears. However, it appears that the save is happening even if you cancel the window. Even files that I worked on a month ago without a problem are now throwing up this window on Save. Tried Alley's suggestion but it doesn't seem to work on this one.

My workaround is to reboot QuarkXPress whenever this dialog appears.

Step Nr 1 would be to create a new preferences folder and see if the issue persists. The preferences are located in the following folders, depending on your operating system:

    On OSX:
    Macintosh HD / Users / (Name of User) / Library / Preferences / Quark / QuarkXPress x.x

    On Windows XP:
C:\ Documents and Settings \ (Name of User) \ Application Data \ Quark
    QuarkXPress x.x

    On Windows Vista:
    C:\ Users \ (Name of User) \ AppData \ Local \ Quark
    QuarkXPress x.x

Removing the QuarkXPress x.x folder from that location will force the application to create a new preferences folder at the next launch. Tell us if this solves the issue.

    Hi Manuel!

Thx for the tip, worked for me for about 20 savings but after that same problem again! Hope the Quark developers are working on that problem.

To what I get it seems to be related to Asian fonts or sth sets, right? Have you tried deactivating extensions such as EAText, SpecialLineBreak and other similar which are apparently not required as far as you don't play with asian texts?

Funny how you can smugly ignore threads for months, till it happens to you! I started getting the message on save this morning. Tried what Jean-Marie suggested and so far, so good.

Re: Non Breaking Character Sets, another solution

There is another solution to this nagging problem:

In your Quark8-folder "Xtensions" you rename the file SpecialLineBreak.xnt to anything you like, it should however not contain the wording "SpecialLineBreak" (just in order to keep the original) and save it in this folder. Then you load this renamed file into any editor, delete the content, and save the emptied file unter the name SpecialLineBreak.xnt.

When you restart Quark8 you will get a window saying that with this file there something wrong. You tick the little box in the window which offers you not to show this window in the future, then you click on "ignore" (and possibly OK).

After restarting Quark8 the thing is gone for good.

    Good luck!
