I am running Tiger, 10.4.11 and Quark 6.5.2. No problem until recently. The application opens fine, can work on a file, but once I move to another app or out of Quark then on return the clock keeps running and it freezes, Force Quit displays 'not responding'. I trashed the .plist preference; I set up new user and launched Quark from there without problem but would like to fix the problem and understand what is happening. Thanks in advance for advice. jw

 Hello, very probably the preferences are damaged, so you simply need to delete or remove the following folder:

 Macintosh HD / Users / (Name of your user) / Library / Preferences / Quark / QuarkXPress 6.0

Thanks for your reply...after posting, I did delete the QXP 6.0 folder; didn't work. Then I went into the application and disabled all the Quark extensions (put them all into the Xtension Disabled folder); that seemed to do the trick, but I don't know why because I then slowly enabled a couple at a time and tested each time until finally they were all back in the original XTension folder and it still worked!? That was on Sunday. Monday it worked for quite a while and then it happened again where it froze when moving in and out of a quark file. Tuesday it has happened again so I have half of the extensions disabled and I'm testing this. Do you have any suggestions as to which ones might be a problem more so than others? Much appreciation for your help. JWS

 Try creating a Preferences folder inside the QuarkXPress applications folder itself. Sometimes this resolves things.

Go to Finder. Go to your Applications folder. Go to the QuarkXPress folder inside your applications folder. Open the QuarkXPress folder that is inside your Applications folder.

Go to the Finder's File Menu and click. Select New Folder. You will see a new folder appear that is highlighted and says untitled folder. Rename that untitled folder to the following name: Preferences. Press the RETURN key.

You now have a folder titled Preferences inside your QuarkXPress application folder inside the Applications folder. Restart QuarkXPress. If this doesn't work then the problem is somwehere else. 

Thank you, I did as you said. It didn't work....where else can I look? Could a font problem cause the freezing? jw

This was driving me crazy too. So I thought what did I do recently to create this issue? I had changed my Keyboard settings to US Extended and that created it. Check and see, if so, change your keyboard back to US, resart. I hope this helps.
