    DeviceN or CMYK setting

I always used DeviceN in QuarkXpress 6 when i used Spotcolors

and CMYK for just Full Colour pages.

Now i use Quark 8 and i am making new settings in combination with my colormanagement settings.

Now my question is can i use the DeviceN setting also for normal CMYK work?

Then i don't have to make the standard setting double.

Are there any problems i can get when i do this?

And is the DeviceN necessary for all Spotcolors?

DeviceN supports both spot and CMYK. That's what I use when I am making color PS files for distilling. Unless, Quark fixed it, stay away from AsIs as you'll end up with RGB. I had to hash this out quite a while back as I was getting RGB PDFs and DeviceN was what worked for us.

    Re: DeviceN or CMYK setting

DeviceN from quark7 and 8 converts pretty much everything to DeviceN Spot colours which can confuse preflighting PDFs. Also DeviceN is pretty hard to actually find with quark7 and 8 since its buried. As Is with regards to the RGB problems was fixed with quark7 but its been pretty ropey with Grayscale Tiffs going to 90% weight. can't remember where its at with 7.31/7.5 or 8. As a prepress worker for a medium size printer Quark7 has convinced me to push for only accepting PDFs here, its just becoming too much hassle to sort out and still make money.
